Kindle Fire & Videos

Can anyone suggest why my Kindle Fire (Basic one) is no longer able to play videos?

This happened overnight - one day it was fine, next evening no videos.

Same result YouTube and Yahoo. I get to the video start arrow > tap it and then get a blank screen where the video should be (not the whole screen).

Same result in both Silk and Firefox browsers.

Have you contacted Kindle Support?

You're no longer connected the internet?

No, not that. Everything else works fine. Feels as if the tablet no longer has Flash ... but not all videos are Flash, many are MP4.

Not yet. Bit hesitant to do so in case it's something I've done ...

ChrisJ says:
a) Restart the Kindle. Hold the power button in for 20 seconds.
b) if no good, reset to factory defaults and re-load just the things you need.
c) contact Amazon.

You might as well do a and b - as they may well ask you do those anyway...

Further ... I've installed a YouTube viewer/downloader app. It works fine !!

What will (a) do?

Try it and see...it reboots the device. Usually the cure for most evils.

Will try it later, but no rush as I have the app which can probably manage it better than a browser.
Cheers

If your device needs a reboot it needs a reboot.

Tes, OK, will try it later. For the moment I've bought the full version of the YouTube downloader, although for another unknown reason the Aurora (Firefox) browser is now playing videos again although Silk isn't.

What are these 'coins' that everything on Amazon is priced in nowadays?

It's probbaly working again because whatever you downloaded gave it a nudge.
If you had been bothered to reboot your device it would have likely saved you the cost of another app.
Now that you've established your device definitely needs a reboot ( things don't suddenly stop and start unless something strange is going on) why not do one sooner. It'll save you launching another question when it goes wrong again. Holding a button for 20 secs isn't exactly onerous and rather less time than that spent typing queries.

I did that last night. Unbelievably Aurora can no longer play videos and Silk can. It was the other way round before the reboot.

Continuing to use the app.
