My product arrived and everything is brilliant but when I try to get an app (facebook in this example), I click on get app and a box pops up which says "please check that your billing address and payment method are from a supported country" - What AM I doing wrong? I am in the UK, I have made sure that I have changed my country to the UK and STILL I can't get it to work - SO frustrating, anyone any ideas?

I have exactly the same problem. I have a UK Billing Address, use a Virtual Credit Card but spend most of my time living in Belgium. I can buy and download books and music onto my Kindle Fire HD without a problem, but cannot download any app (free or not) from the AppStore. Could you please tell me what to do to fix this?

I suggest you contact Customer Services by clicking on "Help" at the top of this page and ask them to telephone you. You may have an incorrect setting on your Fire.

Jan, I think apps can only be bought whilst in the Store country. US Fire owners have never been able to buy apps when overseas.

I am having the same problem and I thought of rather buying the amazon gift card from Sainsburys. I am sure it will work then.

As you are in South Africa - according to your profile - you won't be able to buy from the UK store.

Will be interested to know if The Amazon Gift Card from Sainsburys works?? Meanwhile try downloading 1mobile.com onto your Kindle Fire and you can access lots of free apps this way.

I have found a solution!
Log into your amazon account, whichever country it is.
Click on "Hello, ****, Your Account"
Scroll down to "Manage your kindle" - under settings
Look on the left of the screen to the links, click "country settings"
Choose the address of where you are currently,
It will then let you install apps.
This was happening with my mum's kindle and that should work, she then could install Facebook on her kindle.
Hope this helps!

Check in Kindle Payment Settings as it requires you have 1 Click Payment active

Sign into Amazon
Go to **Your Account**
On the main page scroll down to **Settings** and click **1-click Settings**
In this area you will see your address and payment details. Underneath the address it will say **Click Here** to make this your 1-click default address. Once you have clicked and changed it to the correct billing details it will then work... (well it did for me). Hope this helps.

I bought a kindle fire for my husband - unfortunaely if its not registered in the USA you can't download most apps - this is according to customer service inthe UK and elsewhere. I am fuming but resigned to it. My husband wanted to watch live streaming footy but can't because although the app is on amazon.com - you can only download and use it if it comes from.co.uk. They have blocked the use of any apps which are on their .com website. Amazon must assume that all europeans are a push over - perhaps we are because I've been stuck with this for a month now eagerly expecting them to do something .. but no.. they take the money and give nothing back.

Denis Powell says:
Sharon, how did you buy it? Amazon wouldn't ship it to the UK or anywhere else in Europe precisely because it wouldn't work fully here and it said on the website that even US owners wouldn't be able to buy apps when outside of the US.

You can install apps from the likes of goodereader and 1mobile.

i got the kindle fire for xmas, it comes with a list of built in apps, unfortunately it wont let me open them or show them in my app store, rather frustrating as i want to personalise my kindle with a picture as the wallpaper,

In reply to an earlier post on 26 Dec 2012, 12:43:06 GMT
Denis Powell says:
Lorrie, unlike full Tablets you can't personalise a Fire. It's not the way it works and there's no "desktop" screen to add your own wallpaper too.

I'm not clear what exactly it is you're saying. Firstly you say it comes with a list of built in apps but it doesn't show them. If you want to open an app or download it from those pre-loaded to the Cloud you need the App Tab not the App Store. You only need to use the App Store to browse or acquire new apps.

Have you registered the Fire to your account and have you got a WiFi connection. You can do nothing without both.

I bought it from Amazon.co.uk and no-one said anything about it not working and no-one said anything about not being able to buy apps if you are outside of the USA! - even support was baffled and despite making me change my country etc I stil couldn't buy apps - I am talking about the many free ones developed before the kindle fire HD became available in the UK. I think many people (now I realise it was stupid) thought that once the kindle had been tested in the USA and all the apps were avalable it would be just rolled out in the same way in Europe - most non nerds(i bought mine because my husband needs it as he spends a lot of time in hospital) thought it would be the same but there seems to be a geographical differance- why I have no idea? and of course I was promised a months free use of the library and other things but then told (when I couldn't acess them) that these were only for USA customers... strange that Amazon is still advertising the fire HD with these offers when they cannot be accessed. Check it out on Amazon.co.uk and scroll down to the Amazon prime bit - you don't get that - it doesn't say anywhere that this is for USA purchases only but it seems that that is the case. Support has confirmed it to me several times!!! con!! - I will perhaps report Amazon to advertising standards - ..for misleading advertising!
