Journey to the Hills and other Stories
Named after a Himalayan flowering bush commonly found in these hills, Mussoorie was established in the early part of the 19th Century. Largely shunned by the British aristocracy, Mussoorie society in the 19th Century comprised of English businessmen and Box Wallahs with Indian princes and wealthy merchants thrown in for good measure.Things began to change after independence in 1947. The British left and many of their larger mansions were bought by wealthy businessmen from Calcutta and Bombay. Smaller houses were also bought by professionals from UP and Delhi. These stories are largely set in the Mussoorie of the 1960's and 70's. The British had long gone but many of their traditions and institutions still lingered. An army band played in the evenings at the Band Stand near the public library. Miss Mussoorie contests were still the highlight of the season though the contestants were no longer the white `missy log' . The schools - Waverly Convent, St. George's, Woodstock and many others were thriving. Families still took long summer vacations and there was no television and hectic activity to disturb the quiet flow of life. So, dear reader, enjoy the gentle charms of a forgotten time.

An Introduction to Mathematics for Computing and IT Practitioners
There are a number of topics within mathematics which have a direct relevance to computing and IT. Some of these topics form the basis of how a computer processes data, some are used at a higher level to enable a program to perform a required function, and others are algorithmic and can be easily implemented within a computer program. This books attempts to bring together many of these mathematical concepts and present them in a way which is relevant to those studying ICT and computing qualifications, and to those who would like to start to explore this subject for themselves. This book not only demonstrates how to perform the relevant calculations, but puts the topics into the context of computing. Explanations include simple diagrams, tables of data, worked examples and questions with worked answers to allow the reader to check their understanding of a topic. Some of the explanations include the use of algorithms and flowcharts as well as coded examples using JavaScript. Additionally, throughout this book there are examples to illustrate how the mathematical concepts are used within computing and IT. Please note that this book is purely an introduction to this subject and many of the concepts are described in their simplest form. The reader may then wish to go and explore a specific topic in more depth. The following is a list of the topics which are covered by the book: - Algorithms: Steps and Flowcharts. - Matrices: Operations, Transformations, Simultaneous Equations, Maps and Graphs. - Sequences and Series: Arithmetic, Geometric, Recursive Algorithms, Fibonacci sequence, Golden Ratio. - Searching and Sorting Algorithms: Bubble Sort, Quick Sort and Binary Search. - Probability: Tree Diagrams, Space Diagrams, Venn Diagrams and Simulation. - Number Systems: Binary, Octal, Hexadecimal, Conversions between number systems, Operations on Binary. - Boolean Algebra: Logical Operators, Venn Diagrams, Boolean Expressions and Logic Gates. - Character Codes: ASCII, Unicode, UTF-8, Hamming Codes, MIME Base 64. - IP Addresses: IPv4, Network and Host IDs, CIDR Notations and Subnetting.

This actually looks pretty good, but I can't help but be reminded of the Ethan Hawke film 'Boyhood' which has been described as 'too long and too American.' ...We shall see.

Nibbles of Nonsense Hilarious Comic Verse
Award-winning author, John Howard Reid, has set his sights on humor in this anthology of original poetry. "A Fly in the Eye" is total nonsense, but "Muzzle That Dog!" comes closer to satire, while "A Song for All the Pirates Out There!" could be described as parody. 52 poems.

50 Best "B" Westerns Hollywood Ever Made (50 Finest Films Book 2)
All who enjoy Hollywood's "B" westerns will find plenty to engage their interest in this little book which not only provides full cast and credit details of 68 must-see movies in this field, but reviews and background information as well. Why 68? The author felt he could not stop at 50. There were films he just had to include - among them a couple of personal favorites that are not yet available on DVD, plus two or three "A" attractions that he just couldn't leave out. The author's only regret is that he was not able to include more of Roy Rogers. Sad to say, unlike almost every other cowboy hero, most of Roy's movies are unavailable on DVD, except for dreadful, impossible-to-watch, black and fuzzy, TV cutdowns.

My Tokyo Weekend: Best 3 Day Guide from My 10 Years in Tokyo
"Tokyo is busy, crowded and expensive!" These might be the typical images of Tokyo and yes, they are true! However, Tokyo for me is delightful and relaxing as it is not just a business area and flavorless tourist resort. Beautiful gardens, traditional culture, historical buildings, tasty dishes and many other attractions are spotted around the Tokyo area. The beautiful sunsets and the city views during the hours are pretty fascinating as well. In this guide, I gathered all my favorite outdoor activities and local foods so you can experience and enjoy them efficiently. Day1 - Cycling tour to discover fine coffee roasters and modern culture of Tokyo. Day2 - Short day trip to an emotional ancient town. Day3 - Exploration of the Japanese traditions inherited for hundreds of years.

Hi everyone
Here's one from the author of the St Mary's chronicles (not free) which come highly recommended on different threads on here. This one also has good reviews -
The Nothing Girl - Getting a life isn't always easy. And hanging on to it is even harder... Known as "The Nothing Girl" because of her severe stutter and chronically low self-confidence, Jenny Dove is only just prevented from ending it all by the sudden appearance of Thomas, a mystical golden horse only she can see. Under his guidance, Jenny unexpectedly acquires a husband - the charming and chaotic Russell Checkland - and for her, nothing will ever be the same again. With over-protective relatives on one hand and the world's most erratic spouse on the other, Jenny needs to become Someone. And fast! Fans of Jodi Taylor's best-selling Chronicles of St Mary's series will adore the quirky humour in this new, contemporary novel.

Recently I bought a large second hand book from Amazon of Jack Kerouac's letters. It had been delivered to the wrong door and was popped through my flat's communal letterbox late in the evening. I dropped it into my satchel and took it to the pub quiz. I thought i'd give it a cheeky butcher's and then was asked by a man what I was reading. So I told him and he said. Do you know him? I said Do I know Jack Kerouac?? and he said, yeah. I said, well no, especially considering he died in 1969. and the bloke says, then why do you want to read his letters? To which his friend also said, yes why? And although I explained who Jack Kerouac was and what the book was about they made faces of disgust and shook their heads at me. I asked them what book they had read last. Surprise, surprise. Neither one of them reads books. Nor did anyone at the table on my team, although one of them had heard of Jack Kerouac and tried to help me explain why I was interested in Jack's letters, but it was useless in the end.

Anyway, I chose this book because of the title, natch.
