T O'Brien says:
I wan't aware of that phones and laptops were display 3rd party brands like that. I really only use Apple products and they don't do that at all so maybe that is why I am more sensitive to it than you are.

Walker says:
Looks fine to me. Although I wouldn't see it much as I would be too busy using my kindle to read books on. A lot of fuss about nothing imho.

Like the Windows advert that appears when I switch my PC on. Hang on, that actually isn't an advert either is it. That's just telling me the brand name of who I bought the software from.

Apple products display an Apple brand on their screens when starting up. Only because Apple provide the whole package and nobody else sells Apple stuff.
I am informed of the phone service provider annoyingly displaying their brand on screen. I shall write to my MP, I still have a supply of green ink for such purposes, demanding this subliminal advertsising be banned immediately.

I won't even go as far as my sheer fury at authors names on book covers.

I went to Waterstones earlier and refused to buy a Kindle there as they would not give me an Amazon bag to carry it home in.

I know my rights!! This is a total infringement of my rights!! How dare a supplier of such a product place in full view such a blatant self posturing affectation to influence any unfortunate who has happened upon it!! This is non-subliminal subliminal invasion of my psyche. Just wait 'till my MP hears about this abuse.!!!

They get away with it because the makers of the phones sell them to the carriers (networks like orange, t-mobile etc) so the manufacturers are totally at the carriers mercy. I'm just glad they've stopped stamping ugly network logos on contract phones, like they used to.

Same thing has happened with Waterstones and the Paperwhites, I think.

Can just imagine the messages that are circulating around the Waterstones Intranet ;0)))

Paul says:
From what I gather Waterstones are meant to advise people buying devices from them that this will happen so I would hit them up in relation to this.
Personally if you use waterstones anyway they should be of benefit to you and add's don't really bother me in the slightest.

Sarah, the network provider displays on all phones irrespective of who you bought/contract the phone from.

Hang on. My paperwhite has Kindle in big easy to read letters on the front. My other Kindle hasn't.
Is this advertising?

In reply to an earlier post on 15 Nov 2012 18:31:47 GMT
I don't mind It too much either I just wish it would alternate to give a bit of variety. However its not the end of the world and to be honest I wasn't that keen on the screensaver on the paperwhite. I prefer the ones on the kindle keyboard. I guess if I'm really missing them I could just have a look at them on my touch as they are the same.

Ha I bet waterstones are beginning to regret this deal with amazon. First people were complaining about defective screens and now they have screensaver gate on their hands lol All this trouble in less than a month. Maybe it would have been nice to know before I bought mine, however knowing what I know now I'd still buy my paperwhite from waterstones.

I really liked the arty Amazon images and wondering what I'd get next, so wondered what was going on when it got stuck on the same rubbish quote one and wouldn't change. Disappointed to read this thread and discover it won't go away and I won't get the Amazon ones back :(

It should, because it turns your Kindle off - blank screen ;-)

Ok, update from Amazon. Nothing they can do, tell me to return to Waterstones (if i am within their return period).
Now if only Waterstones support would answer my support call...

Is there any way to increase the text size on the menu? My mum needs the largest text to read but cannot see any of the menu!

Some people do get annoyed easily. I wonder what they would do if their house was flooded or struck by lightning.

I knew someone who got really stressed out if they ran out of her favourite brand of baked beans at the supermarket. I reckoned it was because she didn't have anything else more important to worry about.

I think the key to a happy life is to keep things in perspective.
