"Great Britton" indeed. Another ill-educated, parochial minded Yank. Go away.

David - you seem to be a little slow, but then you're American, so I guess we should take that into account.

In general we can order from amazon.com - most of the time there is no point, but sometimes physical book availability is different. However amazon.com will not ship the new Kindles to non-US addresses.

On the Kindle Fire page it has this line:
"Ships from and sold by Amazon Digital Services. U.S. only."

I was going to point out that the Kindle DX could be ordered from the UK, but that appears to have disappeared completely - part of me hopes it's just being updated to Kindle3 standards, or later, but i suspect they've just discontinued it :(

With respect sir, below is the Amazon, US web site address. If you would like to click on it and look at the "shipping rates and policies", it's the little button at the bottom of the page, you certainly may. Look specifically at the shipping rates to Europe. Is Great Britton any where near Europe?http://www.amazon.com/

With respect David, what you've written has absolutely no relevance to this thread. Amazon will not ship the Kindle Fire or either of the Touch devices outside the US. So putting in a 'secondary' US address and expecting them to ship to your home address outside the US simply won't work in this case.

Some UK people are using secondary forwarding services to buy these items, they will ship from Amazon inside the US and then a company forwards them on to your home UK address... for a fee.

As for buying anything else that 'ships globally' I've done just that and never had a US address linked to my account!

I predict that the Fire will never be released in the UK. I further predict that when Amazon do get round to launching such as device in the UK we will be closer to Xmas 2012 than Xmas 2011.

That said, if people do buy a Fire for use in the UK it will work but you'll have to "root" it and load a new OS onto it. If you plan to do that then I'd suggest the new Nook is a much better device. (Do either have locked bootloaders? The old Nook tablet didn't)

In fact, there are several half decent tablets on Amazon.co.uk, which are cheaper than the Fire, will work out of the box and you don't have to ship from the States.!

Best of all if you want a really decent tablet, cough up the dosh for one of the Samsungs, Asus (the new Transformer Prime looks quite tasty) or ahem ....iPad! I wouldn't risk money on a device that is never likely to be seen nor supported here, let alone work!

David, this is about the Kindle Fire, not any of the other Kindle models.

There is no model that says it will "work globally".

amazon.com have even told american buyers not to expect it to be able to do much if they go abroad on holiday!

I contacted Amazon with regards to getting a friend to purchase one when it's released in the US and bring it to the UK for me.
However, Amazon stated that you can't download anything from the Amazon UK site to a US Fire, meaning it will be pretty useless (unless I get my friend to load it completely with all the books I want before bringing it over).
And they have no release date for the UK.
COME ON AMAZON..!!

Too late for me, I've got an Archos 10.1 inch tablet, haven't tested the wi fi out of the house yet. Have managed to get the Android Market onto it and already have a few apps (mostly games) installed. You Tube videos play well with good sound and picture quality. There's a few things I want to try on it but am waiting till I get the protective case for it from Ebay before taking it out of the house. I also need to work out how to do a couple of tech things as well such as getting music from Windows Media Player onto an SD card rather than having them on the tablet. I also want to find out if i buy films from Love Film, if I can put them onto SD cards. These 2 things will be handy for when I'm out especially trips over to my parents,. If I can do what I'm hoping with music and films, my ipod will be left at home as well as DS and laptop. Trying to reduce the amount of tech things that go over to my parents.

Ravy, I used to do 3D photography using Kodachrome slides many years ago and it was very successful, although expensive. I have more cameras than I care to admit to. ;-) I think the Canon T90 was my all time favourite although I took many thousands of photographs with an A1.

Now I paint and draw instead.
