Denis Powell says:
ChrisJ, the product page only refers to being able to "shop and download books virtually anywhere" so my guess is that the 3G service won't allow general web browsing. If it does, however, then there may be a 50 MB limit per month when overseas.

CBRetriever says:
The US site says this: Experimental web browsing on other websites is only available over Wi-Fi.

£60 is a heck of a price difference if they are only offering a limited wiki and store access via 3G!

Suze says:
I wonder if any of the people who ordered for one to be imported via a third party will now cancel and buy direct from here.

Denis Powell says:
It was the same difference for the Touch and Touch 3G and that was restricted to Amazon and Wiki via 3G. On the Touch, if you downloaded all 3GB of books via 3G the cost to Amazon may well be around £30 and we can only guess what the 3G price increases may be over, say, 3 years.

Personally I'd prefer to spend that £60 on ebooks but for those without WiFi it's probably a good price.

In reply to an earlier post on 11 Oct 2012, 21:14:30 BST
I thought that in the case of the Touch, it was £40 difference which would have been bad enough, but perhaps my memory is letting me down again. Take your point Denis about those who don't have WiFi though.

Suze says:
David it was a £60 difference in the Touch. The prices for the PW are exactly the same as for the Touch.

In reply to an earlier post on 11 Oct 2012, 21:19:47 BST
Thanks Suze. Like I said, my memory isn't what it used to be LOL. I'm probably thinking of the price difference between the two memory sizes for the Fire HD.

Dave.

Sorry missed your post. I went through kindle support and really begged but in a funny way! Told them I'd been a really good customer and convinced loads of other people to buy a kindle. I wheedled and whined and finally said please about 4/5 times. Shameless I know but I really wanted the paperwhite!

Nothing wrong with a bit of grovelling when it's appropriate, you did really well.

P. Hartung says:
I was really excited to see the Kindle Paperwhite is now available for purchase.

And extremely disappointed to find out I cannot have it shipped to my country (Belgium) :-((
I checked amazon.de and amazon.fr, but they keep referring me to the amazon.com site, where I can only order the standard Kindle.
Feel like a little kid who already knows he's not going to get what he actually really wants for X-mas...

Suze says:
Hints like bricks you mean. You need to stop using your clip on light and using the main light late at night. The PW will then seem like a very attractive present for you :-))

The woman I spoke to on the phone tonight said she was as surprised as I was about the announcement, who knows it may be out sooner than you think.

Right, I have put a pre-order in for a wi-fi one though I may yet change my mind! My K3 is still doing fine after just over 2 years and I'm currently debating whether the smaller storage capacity on the new one is, well, a bit too small. The lighting thing is nice but absolutely not essential... The main draw is the size and therefore easier to fit in my small handbags. Hmmm... I guess I have a couple of weeks to decide if I *really* want one :p

I've just had a look at Tesco trade in prices and this is what'll they'll give you:
Keyboard wifi £48
Keyboard 3G £64
Touch wifi £57
Touch 3G £76

I couldn't find anything for the K4, it kept saying nothing available.

Would love to know why they bothered to release the Touch and then release this 6 months later ... how to hack off the customers who bought a Touch!
Really annoyed and my only consolation is that the PW has received mixed reviews in the US (some poor user experiences), that it has no text to speech and that it has less memory than my Touch!

Suze
Thanks for that.
With my 3G Keyboard and 3G Touch, I could just about get one...

I am surprised at the price difference (taking into account exchange rates) between the US and UK. I would also advise people to read reviews on amazon.com before diving in. There have been huge issues with the screen not being as claimed in the marketing and advertising. If you do searches, you will find some posted images highlighting the issues. If it is something you can overlook - enjoy :) :) If not, it may be worth holding back until the issue is either fixed or the next model is released. I am looking forward to this, but will hesitate until the teething problems are sorted.

When the Kindle Paperwhite is off, does it display the last read book cover (like the Kobo Glo) or still the 'special offers' screen?

Chrissey says:
Just spoken to CS...they said they don't do trade in's but would send me info on trade in where I get a gift card...info took me to trade in page bit it's only for books and video games.....will have to look at Tesco site again!
Wonder if there is still a problem with ghosting on the screen at the bottom
Anyone want to buy a K4 with lighted cover?????

I have to wait ... only just got my Touch a couple of months ago. I noticed the PW mixed reviews and am holding onto that and the fact that my Touch has additional features the PW does not to keep me comforted :)
Just don't understand why amazon would release the Touch and then pull it 6 months later to release this! They had obviously planned the timescale ... maybe it was just clearing their KT stock ... maybe it is to get us all to upgrade (or downgrade depending on your view) ... but how to annoy your customer base!
