In my experience Speedtouch routers have the wi-fi key on the router itself - usually underneath - and they are unique to each router - there is a not a generic one for that model.

Many posters find it quicker to charge from the mains, have you tried that?

Are you waiting for the light to go off? It will turn green and stay on when it's charged. Silly question but is your laptop plugged into the mains? Because if it's running on battery power it may well not charge your Kindle. Personally I wouldn't try and charge anything from a laptop.

I left my Kindle on charge on the mains overnight and in the morning the charge was lower than the night before. The orange light was on but clearly it hadn't been charging. I wiggled the wire and checked again in an hour - fully charged! The indicator light is not always a guarantee that it is actually charging it would seem.

Maria says:
Perhaps it was charging but not properly due to a slightly loose wire.?

Some ports in some laptops may not have any power to them: so you would never be able to charge using those ports.

In general, charging from a USB port is somewhere between slow and very slow. Charging from a laptop USB port could take twice as long as charging from a PC powered USB port.

Last night I got the "battery power is low" message and connected to my mains charger, nine hours later and the orange indicator light is still on?

Denis Powell says:
There could be a problem with the cable but you could always try a restart. That sorts lots of problems.

It may be that the green light has come on and then a few hours later changed to orange again. Have you unplugged it and had a look to see if the battery indicator shows nearly full? If it does just plug it back in again and wait half an hour. I usually leave mine plugged in overnight and have noticed it will go back to orange for a short time after a few hours. There's probably nothing wrong with it.

This happened to me 2 days ago. Just give the lead a bit of a wiggle where it goes into the kindle and see if that helps. It worked with mine, so I think I just hadn't pushed the plug into the kindle properly.

I have an HTC mobile and have discovered that the charger works with the Kindle as well. Can I damage the Kindle using the HTC lead when it fits perfectly and the battery icon on the Kindle shows that the battery is being charged?

Carol, I've been using my Samsung phone charger with my Kindle for over a year with no problem so I think you should be fine with the HTC one.

Was it left in Sleep mode or was it off?

You may need to charge it for at least 30 minutes before it will have enough power to register on your PC.

Anyone else have a delay problem after you've plugged it into the usbto charge and try to "eject" it so you can carry on reading? I have to try the reboot button hold at least 6 times befores I get the kindle to go off the batterty screen and back to home page! If you charge from mains can you still read the kindle?

If you charge from the mains you can read at the same time.

The mains plugs which take a USB lead are not very expensive.
