Spot on, Denis Powell - my wife's Fire HD wouldn't perform a normal start-up, only a blank screen to peer at, but after following Denis's advice ("Put it to charge from the mains and hold the power button in for no less than 20 seconds and then release"), hey presto, she's up and running once more. THANKS!!!!!

In that case we cant help you... If you have tried everything, then there is nothing left to try.
Could you tell us what Amazon Customer Services said when you spoke to them?
What happened when you held the power button for 40 seconds?
What happened when you left the device plugged into a turned on PC for 3 hours??

I've tried everything and my Kindle is still not switching on!

Thanks for the advice. Very relieved it wasn't anything serious.

Thank you for great advice. Hold 20 then 2. Eureka it's working!!!

Posted on 20 Feb 2016 13:23:40 GMT
Bizarre.. Did the 20 second trick and it works. Thanks. Can only assume it does some kind of reset

I tried plugging into my computer and the '30 second hold' two or three times and thought my Kindle had bitten the dust. I left it plugged in to the computer and guess what - my old kindle is working fine again. Many, many thanks and keep persevering if it doesn't work first time!

Try these numbers April, & speak to a real person Instead of that FOOL Subtle Knife.

Any problems, call Amazon on their freephone number:

Subtle Knife says:
Since you do not say what "this" is its a bit hard to offer advice. Perhaps click the help button at the top of the page and speak to Amazon for free. Their Crystal balls are much larger than the happy neg voters and ignorant troll posters who will shortly fail to answer you.
