Carradale says:
Anyone know where I can find fuller details of this album?

Is it a compilation?
Is there any new material on it?

Cheers!

Carradale says:
Have had a listen on Spotify and looks like a compilation.
Plenty of sites to buy it from but none seem to offer info on track recording dates, etc, etc. Bit annoying.....

I can't find any details either but, as you say, it's a compilation. But it does have 'Peace Piece' on it which ,of course, is not only a very well documented and extremely beautiful "more a mood than a composition" piece : but also should have made it onto my 'if you listen to no other - the most beautiful in jazz' (now rectified). Thanks for reminding me.

Carradale says:
It is a wonderful track.

And for short and sweet you can't beat this

On further investigation probably have most of the other tracks on the original releases...

Martin says:
It's definitely a comp, Carra, seemingly featuring tracks from a number of his 60s albums, most of which you'll already have as you're a fan!

... and have The Complete Riverside Recordings [BOX SET]

Carradale says:
Thanks Martin.

Just had a quick look on iTunes and was aghast to find I had 35 Evans albums!

(Oh and the ones with Tony Bennet!)

I do need to get out more!

Lez Lee says:
I'm sure the Deadheads are well ahead of you, Carra. Though obviously not with Bill Evans.

Martin says:
Knowing them they'd get the wrong Bill Evans anyway!

Funny thing about the albums with Tony Bennett , I've got Together Again but as with all things Tony Bennett I blow hot and cold - mainly because sometimes I find his voice irritating and at other times not so much. But of course Bill's piano is sublime. Having said that I'm playing "Some Other Time" from The Tony Bennett Bill Evans Album as I write and "When In Rome" next.

Post Script

See what you've done now , because after the tracks mentioned it follows onto the 'Together Again' album on my iTunes ... I'd forgotten how lovely "You Must Believe In Spring" x2 is... in fact I can see why (with a few exceptions) I purchased the album in the first place ;-)

Carradale says:
Well I'm not going to apologise for tempting anyone to listen to anything with Bill Evans in it am I, AC.

Lez, the GD apart, Bill may well be top artist in percentage terms of gigs played to material released.....

Lez Lee says:
Did you ever manage to see him, Carra?

Carradale says:
Never quite sure how much of Evans own compositions aren't really Jazz as such....

Satie, Ravel, Debussy all come it to it.

Elegy in Memory of this Father from Bill Evans at Town Hall falls into similar bracket from others already mentioned.

I cry every time.....

Here is the only bit of it I could find to share ...the Prologue used to back a video appreciation of JD Salinger.

I quite agree - Bennett has a grate voice.....

But if you were to recommend this one with Herbie Mann Nirvana then perhaps there'd be no need to apologise, but I would question anyones taste , Bill Evans fan or not. It's awful.

Carradale says:
OK, Ok

I've got this.

Don't like it either!

In reply to an earlier post on 19 Sep 2012 21:33:56 BDT
Martin says:
I can vouch for that, too - the Nirvana in question is obviously the bloody awful 90s grunge merchants rather than the cool 60s psych/pop dudes.

I'd like to hear the Mann / Evans Nirvana album with better sound - something radically wrong with the engineering to my ears - in fact I've never made it past the first couple of tracks.

Carradale says:
Mann just sounds quite a bit off-key to my ears.....

Maybe he was still blinded by the light?

Is anyone out there familiar with 'Consecration' (the recordings of Evans's performances at Keystone Corner a couple of weeks before he died)? I've been listening to some of it recently and it is quite incredible, up there with his very best work. The box set is expensive to buy (even the foreshortened 3-disc box is quite pricey) but I downloaded it piecemeal from Emusic. A 'must' for any fan of the great man.

Martin says:
I've heard snippets of it over the years and have to agree it's very good stuff indeed. Carra, have you got it?
