Yep. Indie doesn't mean independent, just like R&B doesn't mean Rhythm and Blues.

Baddies and Late of The Pier are two English bands worth investigating
Gorillaz new stuff sounds pretty good, but I would consider them English/American.

Depends what you're after in your music. American for me at the moment, Britpop of the 90's has killed guitar solos, much UK music at the moment is quite limp wristed ie Razorlight, Libertines, Oasis, Blur. Even some American bands The Killers for example, the guitarist is a filler in that band. WE NEED TO ROCK!!!!

There are some really good original bands up here in Gods country

check:

"The Statler Project crank out indie rock with an undercurrent of funk, shored up by basslines fat enough to feed a family of four for a week." (KING TUT'S REVIEW - POTATOJUNKIE / Altnation.com)

Very tasty and

Some handsome tunes indeed.

Hi.
I live in Lisbon and will travel to London tonite. I'd like to check out an indie disco. Is there one you can recommend? I'm looking for a place where all the indie hits, past and present, can be heard and danced to...
Thanks!

The Twilight Sad, We Were Promised Jetpacks, Frightened Rabbit are all doing great things (I may be biased, being a proud Scot ) but the most innovative (mainstream?) band I've enjoyed recently is White Denim

But people, what about the likes of Blind Pilot, Guster and The Decemberists? Shurely some of the finest ear candy around at the moment...
