John J says:
Can anyone from Amazon explain to me why people un the USA can buy an Amazon Fire Tv streaming player so they can watch Amazon Prime instant video on their TV but you cannot purchase the same device in the Uk - why

Posted on 17 Apr 2014 13:11:48 BDT
Same reason why they release new kindles in the US first - production numbers, in order to satisfy demand in the US they hold off a release in other countries.

S. Gilliland says:
Maybe they have to make deals for the on board services. Things like 4oD, BBC iPlayer etc. Or at least have the apps developed before release. Just a guess of course as no one can get amazon to comment on a European release.

I'm another that is waiting. I asked Amazon why they have not got an agreement with Panasonic yet for an App for Panasonic HDTV's so as a Prime member I could access their film content. Reply was noncommittal. Same with the Amazon Fire TV. As it is Web based, they could update at a later date as agreements came in. Amazon, please start selling.

And if Amazon started selling the Fire TV here and people found they could not yet access content, they would quickly be posting on here complaining about that.

Be aware that if you buy from a site such as this, it could possibly be regarded as a grey import and you might not be able to receive any support or warranty from Amazon , should you need it.
It might be worth confirming before you buy, unless you are comfortable to just go ahead.

LegoGirl says:
That website also tells you that it only works with US Prime membership and says you will have to use software to disguise your geographic location, which is against Amazon's Terms of Use for Instant Video.

Just wait for the UK version, certainly they will have it out here as soon as possible since it benefits them to have more proprietary hardware in use for Instant Video.

It's wrong that they are about to increase my prime membership when it's not possible for me to watch it on anything! Going to have to get Sony smp-n100 off eBay for £30 instead

Hugo Doswald says:
This device works for customers who have Amazon Prime USA and grants access to your Amazon Prime Movies and TV Shows. It does not work for Amazon Prime UK.

watching it from my computer on my TV with HDMI cable without problem. Waiting for Fire TV is much easier than waiting for the 3rd series of Vikings....2015 is sooooo far away

watching it over my Network connected Sony BluRay player no problem

Oh dear. I just read an article in yesterday's Observer that says Amazon's Fire TV is not expected to be released in the UK until next autumn/Christmas. If they're correct, we'll have to be patient for quite a while yet.

A. Down says:
I think Amazon's UK streaming service is based on Love Films SilverLight system which is no doubt incompatible with the US version. Hence the wait.

Well for £20 i bought a Sony smp n100 media streamer that's plugged into my tv.
Disappointed with the content of Amazon prime vs Lovefilm though.

Like the above poster, I got tired of waiting for Fire TV and bought an ex-display Sony SMP-N100 from ebay. I'm very happy with the content, especially as new series get added daily. The device works a treat for streaming Prime Instant Video wirelessly to my 42" Samsung, although it does go through a 'checking broadband speed' process each time before it begins to play. Still, quality is fabulous. When we in the UK finally get Fire TV I will move this unit to the bedroom and have Prime Video everywhere.

We watch on Xbox 360 on one TV or stream via an Apple TV from an iPad on another - fortunately we had all these so no extra cost. My son streams via his laptop and watches using a VGA cable to his TV - and did that for a couple of quid. But yes we would like to see an Amazon Fire TV in the UK too.

J L Perkins says:
I'm with you on the Panasonic issue. I have a TV and blu ray home cinema of that make, both with internet access and I can only play amazon prime content on my iPad. Really frustrating. Can't wait for fire tv to be released in the UK.

Dan- says:
The main reason this hasnt been launched in the UK yet is likely todo with licencing rights, they'll have to develop/negotiate alot of apps etc before it can launch.
Will netflix allow an app, Now tv, Hulu??, spotify, pandora, etc etc etc. Alot of them are kinda no brainers, but the red tape and somewhat secrecy around its development probably means they have only just started most of these negotiations in the UK.
