Actually, I have seen Paul Daniels change water into a red liquid! It might have been wine, and the green could have been Creme de Menthe or even Absinthe, who knows?

There is certainly a degree of historical record, so in that sense some fact.

The superstitious elements serve to explain what the science of the time could not and establish a set of rules (or allow control by the elite) for a tribal society.

Evidence of the existsnce of a "God" - zero.

Many fictional books have a small element of truth. As far as relevance to today's world is concerned, the Bible is fiction and wouldn't be out of place in the fiction section of a book shop.

If Adam And Eve are obviously made up, so is 99% probably the same. Some people just need to have something to believe in I suppose.

Neither - it's all about FAITH and BELIEF in God. I believe you should all end the discussion -it's very easy these days to trivialise concepts of belief and take a swipe at things for which you have no regard. It is not about superstition, fiction, magic or folklore. However, for those who contribute to this forum: the Bible is it fact or fiction: the responses so far :it's SAD.

TA BIBLIA - the BOOKS - plural. Written over about 1200 years in different cultures, places and situations. A rich mixture of myth (story with meaning), poetry (including the erotic) history, propaganda, letter and Gospel - good news. Not the inerrant word of God. Not something to beat people over the head with. Many contradictions. But within it, if you come with an open, analytic mind, you may find glimpses of God through the various writings. In no way incompatible with modern science or evolution. Another dimension of rich human experience. Not to be read without a (non-fundamentalist) commentary of which Amazon sells many. Some horrible things are said and done in parts of the Bible. These are down to horrible people, not a horrible God.

ARNIE'S RESPONSE...that's not SAD, that's freedom. (14 Mar 2014 - 21:46)

In my opinion, ARNIE'S post has been the most sensible one submitted on this forum as yet.
All of us should be glad and happy at having the freedom to express our views, not SAD, whatever the subject.
The 'Bible' may well still be the largest selling book in the world. However, that is not evidence one way or the other, that it is 'fact or fiction'.....and let us not forget, that in ages past, reading of the 'Bible' was forced upon people - and pumped down their throat whether they liked it or not, or believed in it or not.
That was SAD. Nowadays, at least in this country, we all have the freedom to choose whether or not we read or follow the teachings of the Bible, and whether or not we believe it to be 'fact or fiction'....and that is most certainly not SAD. Everyone should be glad that they have such a freedom to do so, and not be brainwashed into believing one way or the other.
WELL DONE ARNIE....That is what I call a sensible and unbiased post. "Everyone has a right to an opinion", and in my opinion, you have expressed yours very well.

The bible's fact. The information within who knows, but I guess that's why they call it faith.

The bible is for people afraid of the dark, a fairy tale to help people get by, god is all forgiving????? Explain Noah's ark? Which is one of many where people have been slaughters by our all mighty, it's amazing how people give money and possessions to the church because that's what's god wants??!! The Point I'm making it's certainly not fact.

IVAN - the only sad thing is that people (of all faiths, not just Christian) are indoctrinated from a very young, and therefore vulnerable age, into believing a load of nonsense that only serves to make the various churches and temples associated with them richer. Religion = war. Not that man needs much of an excuse to start a war - as if land, women and food weren't enough reason...! We are an odd bunch aren't we?

Fact is there is more evidence of Father Christmas. Millions of people see him each year etc. The bible nothing by way of evidence. IMO I take Santa with a pinch of salt, like most other adults. The bible even less likely to have a grain of truth about it. I however feel if week folk who need a crutch need to believe in rubbish, fine that is nice for them. The fact that Christians bash Jews when Jesus was a practicing Jew is weird IMO. PS I am not into any religion, just saying. They even fail to follow the Sabbath of their Jesus. Very odd. Surely they should be Jewish after all that was what the religion was all about. Even the bible says the Jews where gods chosen people?? Odd.
