While I was looking up Zoe Muth I came across this which looks to fit the bill - Looking For A Fight - Sweetback Sisters

I think EVERYBODY's missed Gina V - I saw her on tour, just her and a second guitarist so no kick-ass groove, in an upstairs room in a pub in Scunthorpe (as salubrious as it sounds!) and there were maybe 20 people there tops. Not reckoning much to Tift?

A couple more have come to me;

Own Side Now - Caitlin Rose

Tift Merritt, especially Tambourine and Bramble Rose (CD)

If you want a female who puts the rock into country then give Gina Villalobos a go (like 72 Stones with a gal singer) especially Rock 'N' Roll Pony and Miles Away

Maybe not 'end-to-end brilliance' but pretty darn good (and cheap) is the Pierces' You & I

Hi R Stephenson, if it's heartfelt and melodic you're after, try Iris Dement. She has a glorious voice, and isn't in the least commercial. Having said that, she's not everyone's cup of tea; she can be sentimental. I love her. Here are two of her albums:

Infamous Angel

My Life

And you might like Betse Ellis; she plays with The Wilders, but has a solo album of singing and fiddle playing, very rootsy:

Don't You Want to Go

Laura Cantrell's "Kitty Wells Dresses" is really good, as is "Starlight Hotel" by Zoe Muth & the Lost High Rollers.

If it's traditional country music you like, check out anything by Amber Digby or Kimberley Murray.

I'm not an expert on the genre by any stretch but one album that I do love and think you would too is Old Paint by Freakwater. Amazing harmonies.
