Has anyone found a rice cooker ( for 5-6 people) that has a stainless steel inner bowl, not just the steamer tray but the actual bowl the rice is cooked in, for sale here in the uk. I don't like non stick and cook mainly with stainless steel.

I have a Miracle rice cooker that has a stainless steel inner bowl. It works great. I ordered it online from the US, I'm not sure if it is available in the UK.

Thank you. that sounds like the very thing! Did you have any problems with voltage etc.? was there duty to pay?

I live in Canada, so the voltage is not an issue for me. I think I only paid GST and a small border handling fee, but again that could be different for the UK. The voltage is a good question. I didn't think about it when I answered. When I look at the sticker on the bottom of the rice cooker it says Miracle Rice Cooker Model: ME81 (RC-8) UL Listed, 120V~ 60Hz 500W. So it seems like it is only made for North American or Japanese electrical systems. You could see if it works with a transformer or voltage converter, but maybe there's a better solution out there.

After I bought my rice cooker, a couple of my friends mentioned that they had also seen rice cookers with stainless steel inner bowls in grocery stores in the Chinatowns of nearby cities, so maybe that's another place to look.

Another rice cooker I came across that has a stainless steel inner bowl is made by Toyomi. I don't have personal experience with this brand of rice cooker, so I don't know how good it is. However, on Toyomi's webpage they list some models with a stainless steel inner bowl that appear to have a 220-240V 50Hz electrical system, for example the RC 6622SS model and the RC 8812SS model. Some of the other models have aluminum or non-stick inner pots, so you have to be careful which model. The webpage is based in Singapore, but maybe someone in the UK imports them. Toyomi also makes rice cookers compatible with North American electrical systems. The first place I found heard of one was on Amazon.com.

Sorry about not realizing that the voltage would be an issue. I'm glad you thought of it.

Just a simple question, cooks, please. I have a cheap rice-cooker(£9.99). Would a much dearer one produce better cooked rice? Thanks.

Thank you for the information. It looks like the Toyomi is a link to follow up. unfortunately we don't have the Chinatowns to visit, the only chinese gorcery store was in a town 20 miles away and it closed years ago. For the time being I'm stuck using my pyrex bowl in the microwave (can't do stove top rice) and as my family is teenage they tend to eat more, thus the search for something that can produce a bigger quantity of rice at one time. Its about time the british manufacturers gave us a bit more choice, other than nonstick. thanks again.

Its a shame you can't get to an oriental supermarket, try the wing yip website http://www.wingyipstore.co.uk/index.php, it has a couple of rice cookers, you can also get them in John Lewis. I prefer a microwave rice cooker myself, but that's only really useful if cooking for a small number of people.

Thank you. I shall follow this up! Ive almost given up trying to find a rice cooker and have gone back to cooking the rice in a saucepan, but the results are awful.

Not necessarily, if you are happy with the results then stick with it.

THis is only what Amazon has - but some are cheaper than others - yet I have a plastic one for my Microwave - got it from Lakeland IIRC do you think any of these would serve your purpose

Hi Linbe,

I was just wondering if you found a stainless steel rice cooker in the meantime?? I am also looking for one but have not come across anything yet. Any tips? Thanks!

I must admit, I,ve been studying rice cookers online ie EBay, amazon! Pricerunner etc etc and no one seems to do one with a steel liner!probably too expensive to make.

No, I stopped looking. Since then Ive adopted a paleo lifestyle dropped 6 stone and no longer eat rice in any quantity, so no longer need a rice cooker.

The rice cooker I got in Lidl last month has a nonstick bowl.
I would say, find an Asian shop. There are plenty around, I'm sure they have websites.

Having burned more than one saucepan when cooking rice, I use my rice cooker all the time; and there are plenty of other things you can cook in it.
