It's not such a biggie to us. We do sit up, but not to do the countdown, just because the neighbours make a lot of noise with firecrackers etc. and if you want any sleep you wait a bit.
Meal plans? Well this year it's pretty mild. I have a tin of duck quarters in confit, and will probably do some roasties or similar on the side. With the semi-sec Blanc de Blancs I didn't expect.
Normally we do langostines with hardboiled eggs and asparagus but shellfish is at a fearsome price this year so we're doing New Year on a budget.

What about you?

Hi hun! just got in...we go to friends across the road..they cook, usually something scrummy..( hope it's a roast!) I am going to take a low fat lemon cheesecake, using quark along.
To tell the truth I can't wait to get back to normal. I am cooking the Hairy's salmon tonight..got it in marinade and it looks delish.
Will drink far too much over at said friends but hey! I've been good...ish!
Love confit duck Ori, saute pots and a watercress and orange salad...mmmmm!xx

I made Hairy Salmon yesterday, didn't have time to faff around making the sauce separately, so I just marinaded it in the baking dish and shoved the whole thing in the oven. Works like a charm. I don't serve to impress and as granny used to say, "It all ends up mixed together anyway."
I used crystallised ginger instead of the sushi stuff. Nice.

I take it nobody's doing anything special for NYE then? I mean I know it's normal to get completely OT in a heartbeat, but I thought for sure y'all would have all kinds of good nibbles planned.

I am going to be christening my new sous vides gadget. Just got to decide what to cook. We have a couple of friends coming over but I may just ignore them to sit in the kitchen and watch the water bath in action.
