I have one of those little mini-chopper boxes I bought in Lidl, and it's small enough to zip onions and garlic into puree in a heartbeat without being a hassle to wash. Every time they have them I buy one because I use it so much the tops sometimes get broken. Only disadvantage, those cheap plastic tops. DH hates to find bits of onion or garlic in his food so it's nice to "chop them into submission" without crying.

For toast, or jacket potatoes or just on the side, veggie pates are delicious and guilt free.
Here are 2 of mine (and yes, I posted the artichoke heart pate on Bear's thread).
2 cups fire-roasted sweet red peppers, drained well
1 medium potato, microwaved and peeled (about 1/2 cup)
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1" lemon zest
1 teaspoon adobo spice blend
2 tablespoons olive oil
salt, to taste

1. Place all ingredients in the glass of an immersion blender and whizz until smooth.
2. Taste for salt. Chill well.
This goes great on toast, canapes, baked potatoes or as a dip. If you want it spicy you could add a little hot sauce.

Artichoke Heart Pate
Juice and some zest from one lemon
1 (14 ounce) can artichoke hearts, drained and quartered
1 clove garlic
3 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 teaspoon sweet basil
pinch salt

1. Before you squeeze the lemon, take off some of the zest.
2. Blitz all ingredients in a food chopper or processer until very smooth. Chill well.

ha ha, Ori, small world. I have the same. I even put chopped tomatoes in it and this liquidize them (better than taking out the big food processor).

I usually wear contact lenses and it's bliss - no crying over onions! However, I had an issue with scratched eyes and have to wear glasses again and I'd totally forgotten how irritating onions are!
