Got a TM in Apr.2014. My tip from experience is to have the work surface area where you keep your TM a bit lower than standard worktop height*. Wish I'd thought of it when I had a new kitchen installed. As a fairly short person I need to stretch up to weigh in things into a container on top of the TM jug (e.g. my breadmaker's pan or even just a jug) and it feels a bit hazardous. I've given in and bought ordinary weighing scales. *When I was about to buy, the TM demonstrator said, when I showed her the worktop area where I'd keep it: "Good, because if you were going to keep it in a cupboard, I wouldn't sell it to you." Turned out she wasn't joking.

Hi Folks (big wave for Patti)
Yes the eagle has landed. It arrived at lunchtime when I just had time to unpack it, but not to play. However, as it is the end of the week, I snuck off early to have a go with it. Now bear in mind that I haven't yet had my demo from the nice lady who is going to come round and put it through its paces for us, however, I just made some rather good strawberry ice cream.( I put some stawberries in the freezer yesterday, in anticipation). I just put some granulated sugar into Thermi, blasted it into icing sugar, then added the frozen strawberries, and some egg white, and after a few seconds at high speed, I had a silky smooth ice cream. Currently it is making custard for me - automated cooking - I just added the ingredients and told it to make custard!!!!!!!!!! It will tell me when it is done.

Thank you Julia - DPD are very nice people they delivered a very splendid Beko Fridge / Freezer excellent value from Boots - and certainly sufficient for my purposes in a small flat an alone but never lonely - thank the Gods - my freezer - thanks to Donald Russell actually belches - it has indigestion from being packed a week ago

He may not have received it yet. They are delivered by DPD who can deliver up to quite late - I am still waiting for a book from them now. If he has got it, he will indeed be playing with it

Well done Bearman :-) You will love it! If you are on Facebook, do join the group called Thermomix Owners UK where everyone is so helpful. Do NOT bin any gadgets until you have been using your Thermie for a while. It is hard to tell what you will and will not need until you have explored what the Thermie can do. Also bear in mind that if you keep, for example, a food mixer such as a Kenwood, you can have two lots of dough, cake or whatever going at the same time. I got the TM5 about a month after it came out, but still use the older TM31 as well as they are both brilliant machines. Happy Thermomixing :-)

The sad thing is that I know some one will be using this as an excuse to get me to chuck out some of my other, older kitchen gadgets :-(

Happy, you are a tease - besides I have one of those already, left over from when I used to be a landscape gardener. Cement mixers are far to useful to get rid of. Apart from cement, they are also very good for mixing leaf mold, grit, soil etc to make your own potting compost.

Sabine gets the prize for the first correct answer.

After all these years of lusting after one with Pixie, the day is finally coming that I get one - and it's the new one faster, hotter and has the coloured screen and pre-programmed recipe discs.

Yes, you can get some from Thermomix UK - but it depends on what you want! You will need to ring them to see what they have as they don't seem to advertise online. I find that Thermomix Head Offices in other countries do offer more accessories and some will post to the UK, but others won't. If you are based in the UK and are on Facebook, there is a very helpful Thermie owners group It is also for prospective owners as well, so that you can ask questions before you buy. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Got my TM5 today and currently re-arranging gadgets on work surface so that it can sit snuggle up to its older brother :-)

LOl Bearman. From what I understand now is that the price increase only affects Thermies sold in Australia, so the UK ones should remain the same for the time being. Apart from the recipe chip, other differences appear to be a slightly larger bowl, ie 2.2 litres as opposed to 2 litres, a higher heat capacity, temperatures in 5 degree increments, rather than 10 degrees. For full details of the differences, see Maria's blog Note the bit about finance options for those of who who have yet to take the plunge! :-)

Yep, the TM5 is the latest version and only £40 more expensive than I paid for the previous one in 2011, so worth buying atm, as I understand there will be a price increase in November :-(
