Hey Suzy - go for it girl. We started with the local Council for dial and ride and Community events that were going on. Am sure with your personality you can get the others laughing.

Awww, bless you both.....x.....I've met some of the loveliest and kindest people on here! :o>

No, it is time to see what is on offer around my hometown and ask other disabled people how they manage to get out and about. I'm sure that there will be some sort of befriending scheme that I can join. I have a Disabled Bus Pass although I am far too unsteady to use it without help, and I've signed up to a Ring & Ride, and a local Shopmobility Scheme - so the Disability Group is hopefully now the next step to a wealth of opportunities - and more importantly to freedom!

If I had room in this tiny flat, Suzy, I'd invite you for the summer to bake in temperatures in excess of 38ºC. And we'd hold Christmas in July just to spite em.

It,s a damn shame Suzie, I,d take you out in a flash, where would you like to go, I bet Roo and the others would too, we,ll have to have a virtual day out. Hope you get some good things sorted out for the new year. You are still quite young and hopefully modern medicine will find more ways to help people like yourself I the near future.xxxx

I don't mind asking for help, Diamond - and it has certainly got easier, simply because I often have no choice any more!
But I am my own full-time Carer and I would like some quality of respite care from myself?!! - which, for obvious reasons! is pretty much impossible! I can't go out without help, and sadly, my parents are not exactly very helpful? - they think me leaving the house is unnecessary and find it all too much of a challenge for them - so now I don't go out at all, which is so incredibly frustrating and life-limiting.

I have avoided the Disability Group route so far, but I need to swallow my pride and try to find out other ways to get out more - and if I have to rely on the kindness of strangers then so be it - I've learnt the hard way this year, that anything is better than nothing. I don't want or need Day Care, but the chance of a trip out anywhere, even to a supermarket?! and just once a fortnight too! would be a grand start to getting myself back out into the wide world once more.....x

Get out the champagne, Suzy,s seen the light. Too much independence can be a bad thing, and if they make you play bingo I will personally come over and throw all their balls away, you know, the ones with numbers on....love you Suzy.xxx

In reply to an earlier post on 31 Dec 2012 22:08:18 GMT
Yes Suzie, being to independent can be a curse, and people do really want to help.i,ve got this philosophy now, because as I get older I get stressed more easily, so if anyone offers me help I say " thank you very much, then I tell them what I,d like help with, my real friends are quite happy to do so , as am I, if they are in need, it helps the world go round and it,s called LOVE xxxx

Except someone will come in to the room, turn the music down and leave again. And there we are, trapped in our chairs, unable to get up and wind it back up to 11.

Pardon? I heard that. Pardon?

So true, Suzy. For the next generation, retirement homes and day centres are going to have to really change their ways. Instead of Big Band Music and bingo they are gonna have to play the Stones and Led Zepplin et al, and do courses on cooking etc.

Okay, I've just got a 'naughty girl' lecture from my Doctor to take better care of myself! - and so?.....more resolutions!
And as Orinoco has said, if I put it into words and on here, then I am far more likely to stick to them and see them through!

I will get to bed earlier! - even if I can't sleep? - the resting and recovery time will do me good.

I will go to the pool at the Gym at least 3 times a week like I used too - but aim for 4 or even 5 times if possible.

I will make - and bake - and decorate a cake by the end of next year!

I will stop being so completely independent and at all costs.
For all it has achieved? it has also just left me utterly exhausted and very isolated. With many thanks to you lovely lot of Fruitcakes.....x - for letting me feel able to talk frankly on here and for all of your support and encouragement - it is now high time for me to acknowledge the true extent my disabilities much nearer to home and register with the large local Disability Group.

.....I'm still NOT doing Finger Painting sessions!.....Or any Basket Weaving classes though!.....

Or EVER, EVER playing Day Care Centre bl&&dy Bingo!!! - because I really DO have to draw the line somewhere!!! ;o>

Pixies are notorious tricksters, all the Little People can tell you so. Puck is a pixie, you know.

He first wandered into this Forum back in May, Diamond? And he soon found that there were plenty of gourmet dishes and yummy leftovers to be sneaked and snaffled by sobbing or stealing to get his own way. But he is a growing Roo - and I am only a little sunbeam, you know?

Sam does a wonderful job as his Step Dad-to-be, but all the same, our little sweetie can still be a real handful. He will always need 24 hour supervision?.....and we had to sack Pixie, as his babysitter?! - for constantly threatening to bash him up?! Between you and me??? - she is just as bad as he is?!!.....her babysitter, Orinoco told me so!!! ;o>
