Hi guys,

I'm completely new to comics/graphic novels. I'm mainly into horror as I've read a lot of Stephen King and various other horror novels, which has led me to have purchased The Stand full edition of comics which looks awesome. I'll also get to the Dark Tower series after I read the books.

However, apart from the Stephen King adaptations I don't really have a clue what to look for in terms of horror titles.

Also, I'm not much of a fan of superheroes but Batman interests me. Do all his comics have quite a dark tone?

Thanks for any help to get me on the road!

try the "Crossed" series by Lapham and friends, or "Stiched"
Crossed is loosely a zombie theme comic, but with a twist, the crossed are not after brains, but after fun, in the most deraved ways.
Stiched is more conservative of the mystical monsters that are hard to kill, or not able to die.

Both titles are about survival, and the fact that you can not survive an apocalypse.

Also good "Horror" comics include the Wormwood series that tells the story of a reluctand antichrist, The Strain (vampire type) by guillermo del toro and Ferals (werewolfs)

The common aspect in all this: there are no super heroes. Better, there are no heroes.

Hi Blink,

I would agree with all the recommendations from Derfel & Vykos above and would also like to add the following suggestions...

28 Days Later (Boom! Studios)
Blackgas (similar to Crossed)
Baltimore: The Plague Ships
Baltimore: The Curse Bells
Batman: Harvest Breed (pretty cool standalone story with more horror elements than most Batman stories)

Hope some of these will provide some good reading for you if you opt for them :)

Awesome Blake, thanks!

I've also spotted something called Preacher and Hellblaze is it? They look pretty rad.

I'll second the Crossed recommendation, it is a great series.

I also highly recommend Preacher and Hellblazer. Hellblazer especially, as it has a lot of horror elements. Preacher isn't so much horror but its well worth a read. Its one of the first comics i ever read and its still one of my favourites. Plus it was written by Garth Ennis, who created Crossed.
I also liked the 30 Days of Night comics, especially the early ones. Avatar Press (who do Crossed) do a lot of great horror comics. Ferals is my favourite at the moment, but they are doing a lot of good stuff at the moment (Caligula, Stitched, Skin Trade).
It might not be your thing, but Dark Horse are doing some horror anthology comics at the moment (Creepy and Eerie) which usually have something good in there, and IDW are publishing a comic called Haunted Horror, which reprints obscure 50s horror comics. They aren't likely to scare you much, but they are really entertaining.
