Hitman: Ace of Killers (Vol. 4) - got this volume on at random, and quite like it.....

Hitman is the best series I have ever read and IMO the best thing written by Garth Ennis. Most people will say Preacher was Ennis best work and whilst that book does have bigger issues Hitman is a non-stop rollercoaster ride of humour, action, tradgedy and strangeness.

Hitman is the ultimate buddy book. Ennis said himself that it was the one thing hed written that he thought ended before its time. Seriously, pick the lot up - you wont be disappointed.

thanks Chief...I liked it, but wasn't sure how popular its been - I really enjoyed the Demon and Catwoman in this book - reckon I'll go back for more, thanks again the Chief.

It was a title that slipped under the radar a little at the time to the detrement of any person who didnt manage to read it, but seriously - this series is the real deal. This is my 'desert island' comic series. Nothing has made me laugh or broke my heart as much since.

I am onto it - I wonder if it inspired 'the boys' a little as Hitman resembles Billy the butcher and they share an, at times, lethal dislike for guys with their pants on over their trouser... they look related ?
The Boys - Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker (Vol. 10) (Boys 10) compared with Hitman: Local Heroes v. 3 (Hitman 3)

They dont really look alike.

Tommy is a bit of an ass-hat at times - a lovable loser - hes not really strong or tough, just exceptional with a firearm. Butcher is the image of a typical Marine - robust and square jawed. I dont think the appearence of one influenced the other at all.

Tommy doesnt share the same dislike of superfolk that Butcher does. Tommy thinks superheros are a bit silly but doesnt hate them - he even thinks that some heroes, especially superman, are the greatest and he also has a respect for Catwoman (mainly because of the costume and the fact she can handle a firearm).

Butcher has a legitimate reason to hate superheros - mainly because one raped and killed his wife but also because the supes in the Boys are all for the most part immoral, self centred showboaters.

fair enough Chief - I agree, and the Boys is a darker nastier read than Hitman - which I am working my way through and enjoying - particularly like 'Six pack' asides about his drunken fights with Doomsday and Darkseid - I take your point about the major differences between the characters...much prefer a beer with Tommy than Billy (but being Irish catholic descent, I would do)

Simon Hall says:
i may have to go back and give hitman the once over again...i read this up to #13 back in the day, found it quite enjoyable despite the goofy origin from DC's excerable 'Bloodlines' event. The zombie animals was just a bit too silly for me though.

Zombie night at the Gotham Aquarium is one of the greatest comic stories EVER!

The series only got better as it went along and there were no weak story arcs. Whilst it remained very funny its the last twenty of so issues which are the best basically because of the heart rend and tradgedy in them.

Thats one of the best things about Tommy - hes not a superhero so its not the case that everything goes right for him. His life is a mess, he finds out some disturbing things about his past, he owes money to the mob, he has women trouble etc.

Six Pack and Section 8 also have to be one of the best super groups ever especially Dogwelder! Six Pack eventually gets his own short story arc with some interesting revelations...
