This is the best Benny Hill thread since Benny Hill was given the 1983 Benny Hill award for being the best Benny Hill in his (Benny Hill's) house.

I never really got into Benny Hill? Is he far more of a man's comedian, I wonder? Or am I just missing something?.....

It's not that I found his humour to be any more sexist than any other comedians of his era - I just didn't find it very funny? And I got bored watching the shows which all seemed to be an ongoing rehash of just the one long-standing and never-ending joke. When I had seen it once and been mildly amused the first time, I really couldn't be bothered with then seeing it week after week playing out over, and over, and over again.

I was very young at the time, yet a lot of his humour felt very dated to me even then? I'd really love to know the other side to this though, and hear from a die-hard fan exactly what did make him so special to them personally? - as well as to the many others out there? And maybe I'll go back and try watching him again as an adult this time.

You should probably see if you can get Man of Truth to open up - he's the one who professes to be a big fan, but he doesn't give much away. :) A lot of people on his several threads have kind of muttered about 'so-called comedians today' etc, but I don't remember anyone saying they really love BH.

Personally I agree, I never thought he was that great. i reckon he was taken off-air more because he'd had his day than because of sexism.

However...I'm wary of getting this particular ball rolling again...

Ahhh?.....there has been The Battle of Benny Hill on here, has there gille?

Oooh, and you also got yourself zeroed too? - just for answering me?!?!?! - It was/is an all-out War then?!!
Right, well I'd better put my tin hat on to be on the safe side! - and then I shall even the score out with a positive vote.

Although, I must admit that I do have to agree with some of the mutterings about 'so-called comedians today'...? As a lot of their material does frequently seem to be just 10% of actual humour? - with 90% being mainly all of the swear words thrown in simply to pad it out?!!.....and by that definition, then the majority of the poor old soaks who prop up the bollards on the traffic island by Stockport Bus Station every afternoon must be some of the very funniest and also the most talented comedians on this planet today?!! - LOL!!! ;o>
