This show is really funny and that is basically because of all the different CHARACTERS.Also the lovely KALEY KUOCO who was in 8 SIMPLE RULES. Favourite person or CHARACTER is SHELDON,all the young cast who only appear to just be in university but are [except] KALEY CUOCO[PENNY]. ARE ACTUALLY proffessors, all having strange little idiosiyncraceys. just wath! [on cable].

Thanks for that! My five-year-old loves the theme song, too.

It's not great comedy, but it's reasonably funny and passes a pleasant 19 minutes - apparently that's how long the episodes actually are.

big bang theory is hilarious, clearly sheldon is the funniest he's hilarious he's so intelligent but the simplest things about human interaction just go straight over his head, i also enjoy his love of trains especially that episode where they travel on the train to go somewhere i can't remember and Howard, Raj and Leonard all try to hit on Summer Glau (Firefly/Serenity/sarah conner chronicles). loved the episode where the boys found one of the rings that was used in the lord of the rings, that episode is hilarious, or the one where leonard, raj and howard go camping to see a meteor shower or something and a couple of older ladies in tie die grateful dead t shirts give howard some hash brownies that was funny.

Has there been an episode where Sheldon's real father appears? And why did he leave Sheldon and his mother?

I think The Big Bang Theory is the funniest sit com currently on TV. The writing is exceptionally good, casting is perfect. And Jim Parson's deserves those two Emmys. Offbeat Love Stories and More

Sheldon's father is deceased, he has shuffled off this mortal coil, he is an ex-Texan

I watched an hilarious episode last Sunday. Extremely funny. Sheldon going on a date with a girl who was not his girlfriend, lol. I wouldn't mind buying the series, as my daughter would enjoy it as well.
I love American comedy series, particularly Frasier, Friends, Golden Girls, Will and Grace, Boy Meets World, Home Improvement, Spin City, Two And A Half Men. (I watched Disney Channel a lot with my daughter from 2006 to 2010 -Zac and Cody was funny too because I loved Arwin)(Hanna Montana as well because of Jackson, and Wizzards of Waverly Place was funny too. Some of my favourite bits was Justin practising his kissing, and dancing with the robot, lol). They also did a great Zombie dance in one of the episodes and the bit where they did a Charlie Chaplin parody).

Not quite on a par with Cheers, Seinfeld or Frasier IMO but definitely worth turning on the TV for and head and shoulders above the current competition. Sheldon's a bit of a classic sitcom character in the way that Bilko and George Costanza are but the whole ensemble work really well together. Good idea getting in Sheldon's platonic 'love interest' in. Forget her name but I think she was in Blossom all those years ago.

Caught an episode of TBBT yesterday and found it quite amusing. Most intrigued though that Wolowitz's mother sounds just like Judge Judy (though I imagine Mrs Wolowitz is less irritating).

It has its moments , one were the blond slips in the tub and needs to go to hospital and Sheldon has to help her get dressed!

Very funny indeed. Sheldon is meant to be autistic i presume as most of the comedy derives from his inability to detect sarcasm or his failure to be able to interact with others in a conventional way0. Brilliantly observed, and an excellent script.
This series is a minor miracle

So far TBB has been sharp, but it's only a matter of time before it gets a quintessentially American sappy subplot (i.e. Penny has a baby or Sheldon comes out) and the whole thing drags on for for about 5 years longer than it should have done.

I think there are already signs that the series is running out of steam. The attractive female neighbour was a good counterfoil for the four "geeks", but the increasing focus on the latters' love life and greater focus on comedically weaker female characters like Amy, Priya and Bernadette has taken some of the edge off the humour. The original idea for the series was good and it's been very well executed, but I think there's only so much mileage to be got out of it.

I really isn't that funny, it can be mildly entertaining but as predictable as all their shows.

What's happened with series 5 on 4oD. Seems to've suddenly stopped mid season. They've not gone and done a Two and Half Men have they? Sou'wester. Sure Priya and Bernadette are more like foils for Leonard and Howard but IMO Amy's a good comedic character in her own right and great when with Sheldon esp when she wants more of physical relationship which scares the beejasus out of him.

Is the character - Sheldon? - gay or just extremely nerdish. He certainly carries on like the proverbial 'fairy drama queen'.

RABB says:
Extremeley nerdish, probably bordering-on autistic. The actor who plays him is gay though, I think.

Sou'Wester says:
I'm no expert but have worked with young adults with asperger's syndrome and Sheldon does remind me of some of these people. They lack empathy and normal social skills but can often be very bright. They can be quickly and acutely bored by anything which doesn't interest them, but incredibly focused and dynamic with things that do interest them. I don't know about their sexual orientation; it never cropped up in discussion and it seemed that they weren't really interested in any form of sexual activity, straight or gay. The characteristics in Sheldon's character are obviously exaggerated for comedic effect but there's more than a grain of truth in the way he is played. I think the show is quite good in portraying (and laughing at) what many would regard as a disability but manages to do so in a way that isn't disrespectful.
