yeah it could be good to be like james bond and flirt with all the babes, properbly not but thats fiction for you as for a real spy, well i suppose we can use our imagination i guess

Quite right - no babes involved, more a case of being left to do the dirty work then hung out to dry...

Uncle Sid always wanted his story to be told and now, through the medium of Kindle, it is!

Hi M White ... I read your great great uncle's account, thanks for introducing it. It is short but very interesting. It's a shame his family didn't ask him to flesh out the account to full book length but I know we're talking a long time ago. I don't think I'll be signing up with MI6 after reading that. Please allow me to introduce a similar book that I read but which doesn't seem to be released on Kindle yet (Aug 1st apparently). It is "Malayan Spymaster" by Boris Hembry.

Malayan Spymaster: Memoirs of a rubber planter, bandit fighter and spy

Like your great great uncle's account, this was published long after the death of the author. This guy was involved in clandestine operations in the Far East during WWII and it makes for a very good read. It's a long book and offers a fascinating glimpse of life as a rubber planter, spy and Communist bandit fighter in Malaya, or Malaysia, before independence. Also lots of historical photos. Exciting stuff, check it out.

Hi asiaphile

Thanks for your comments and support; I, too, wish there had been more details particularly of Sidney's postwar activities. He died in Paris in 1993 (aged 98) and the French cleared out his flat of documents so we never got to know what he did later.

I think he wanted this to be a statement rather than a full-blown autobiography - he did submit it to a publisher but was told, understandably, that it was too short. If not for Kindle I daresay it would never have seen the light of day, which would have been a shame.

Best wishes

Try this short novel Live by the Knife (S.P.Y Files); the first in an epic series of thrilling and entertaining novels about a young spy, fighting for her country, while keeping her identity a secret from everyone around her. It had a little of everything in it, Romance, Action, teenage journeys, and a fun narrative by the attitude-fueled spy.

Primarily a young adult novel, but apparently many adults are also finding it enjoyable as well!! :) Enjoy
