I took my eldest son to watch The Avengers in 3D, I enjoyed it that much took the wife to see it a few days later. They both thought the film was very good too, infact I already pre-ordered it. However I've enjoyed Nolans version of Batman so I will definately watch the The Dark Knight Rises.

The Avengers was a big, bonkers, over the top action movie. As big, bonkers, over the top action movies go it was EASILY the best that I have ever seen. Two parts with the Hulk made me laugh just about as much as any comedy movie has made me laugh. The Avengers was a brilliant movie. That being said, I'll be very disappointed if Dark Knight Rises isn't better. It's a different kind of film, so it's hard to compare them - but I'd put the Dark Knight in a whole different league to the Avengers.

I originally thought Cap had no business in The Avengers but I was wrong, he's the one that could pull them all together. No Cap, no team.

If you'd read the comics back in the 60s 70s, like I did as a kid, you would know Cap wasn't an original member of the Avengers but after he joined he was accepted as the natural leader, especially by Thor.
Ah, the memories. Man those comics were great.

Me either?

But I bet its till a good film, just dont think it'll be as good as avengers, I do hope I am wrong.

hmmmm samuel l jackson. when even david hasselhof can play a more convincing nick fury you know somethings wrong .

Yeah he does do that, but Samuel L Jackson playing Samuel L Jackson is still a decent Nick Fury.

Anyway he is just there to give exposition and motivation, the film is not about him at all.

like i say its a great movie but it just irks me.
david hasselhof was far from amazing as nick fury in the made for tv cheesefest but at least he captured a little of nick fury.
its something that should be aimed more at the first film he was cast in, one of the ironmans i think. not sure.
but anyway just felt the need to vent lol

When the ultimate marvel universe was created each marvel character under went some changes and some had alternative origin stories. The marvel ultimate universe now sits alongside the regular marvel universe as a kind of alternative dimension/reality. The universe has been designated as Earth-1610 within the Marvel Multiverse, which comprises an infinite number of alternate universes.

This all started with ultimate spiderman released in 2000. It's quite a well known fact that the marvel ultimate universe nick fury was completely modelled on Samual l Jackson and was even drawn to look like him so you could say Sam Jackson played him perfectly.

I did think David hasselhoff looked the part as the original nick fury but was a bit too cheesy as the gruff general type to really pull it off.

yeah hasselhof was rubbish tbh but that was kinda my point.

i was going to mention the whole ultimate avengers thing but didnt bother lol would of made it too complicated. dont care for the ultimate series myself. i love the what ifs but it did scream of marvel rebooting to do film tie ins or be more accessible.
marvel universe is a bit stale tbh, so it needs something.
hopefully the movies will help bring marvel a new audience for books. 40 years of backstory for some chars might just be a little too much to take in lol

"hopefully the movies will help bring marvel a new audience for books."

Unlikely, if the last ten years of superhero success in Hollywood has done nothing to stem the fall in the numbers of comics being sold then I doubt it's going to change anything.

"40 years of backstory for some chars might just be a little too much to take in lol"

I don't even think that's a problem anymore. There's a whole lot more stopping your average Marvel film fan from going and picking up a copy of Secret Avengers.

The Avengers is one of the best comic based films made IMHO.
I like the look of the new Batman film but the lady playing Catwoman does not look so hot as Michelle Pfeiffer or Halle Berry. Will Bane kill Batman and my fave Batman films overall are the Tim Burtons ones.
It's way to early for a Spiderman reboot and I will not be watching this film for that reason. I hear DC comics are planing to do a Justice League film which will have a new Batman in it because Chris Nolan wants nothing to do with this as it will be alot less darker then his vision of Batman etc with Superman at his side.

In reply to an earlier post on 22 May 2012, 00:32:01 BST
Id say Avengers tops all SH movies so far.

I think TDKR will be awesome, but then if you prefer the Burton ones we may have a difference of opinion, I dislike them.

I think the new catwoman is more in keeping with Nolans realistic ish take

I disagree about being too early for spiderman as I hated every single one of the Raimi movies, they got it all wrong IMO, the 2nd being the best of a bad bunch

So I think they've been brave to just reboot it, if they can do it as well as Marvel have done their other characters then this spidey will be the best.

They have also followed the spectacular spiderman cartoon series formula and its the best of the spidey cartoons. for a long time..

I hope its as goo as I think it might be, for a start they have started with right villain for first one.

Lizard, now if they really want to impress me we wont see sight of the Goblin for 1-2 movies more and the Villains will not die at end of each film, that's not spiderman IMO. One of my favourite things about Nolans Batman is that Scarecrow and Joker still live. Hopefully so will Bane

JLA can quite frankly kiss my cookie, I never thought the DC Universe knitted together as well as the Marvel one, for a start supes is too strong and other than Batman the rest are rubbish.

Looking forward to Man of steel, but supes should be on his own as should Bats IMO.

Now what Id like to see is an equally brave reboot of the Fantastic 4, in same Universe as Avengers and then tie in spiderman etc.

Also a Hulk standalone film after this is essential, and please let the leader be the baddy and get the whole grey hulk story going.

Comic book geek heaven LOL.

Im 33 and this run of superhero movies is what I have been waiting for since I was a kid. Best thing is, my son loves them all too.

I'm really surprised to hear you say you thought the raimi spiderman films got things wrong Campbell.

For me that got loads of things spot on. Thought Toby maguire was an excellent choice and played Peter Parker exactly as I imagined him from the comics. Thought Jonah Jamison was another spot on piece of casting too.

I really enjoyed all three spiderman films and thought Sam raimi did a good job overall. I'm interested in seeing the new re boot.

Many people think the Hulk is just as strong as Superman.

I like the new Batman films too, but does anyone know who plays the new Catwomen?

Wasn't a fan of the Raimi spiderman films. Though I'm not really into Spiderman. I enjoyed the first one but thought the second was long winded. Only ever saw 40 mins of the third one turned off to have my dinner, that was a couple years ago.

I did enjoy the F4 films, but they'll obviously have to reboot them now Johnny Storm went back in time lost his powers acquired some new ones and became Capt America.

In reply to an earlier post on 22 May 2012, 10:50:04 BST
I agree with JJ, greta casting, I personally did not like Maguire or Dunst.

And As said my main concernw as that they got all the Villains worng other than Doc Ock, hence 2nd film was the best.

They totally messed up Venom, maybe they did not do Sand man too badly.

Goblin as the first film villain, who made that call?

In reply to an earlier post on 22 May 2012, 10:52:09 BST
Well Hulk has the disadvantage of being a savage beast, superman also has unlimited speed, flight, laser vsion, super breath and has an advanced civilisations technology and intellect.

Pretty much Kryptonite the only thing that can hurt him.

Talked many tiems with a mate about who woukld win between Hulk and Supes, we reckon strngth simniliar, but supes speed would be far too much for Hulk, he could just pick him up and fly him into the sun?

anyway, thats too geeky LOL

In reply to an earlier post on 22 May 2012, 10:53:39 BST
Yeah, but FF was done badly IMO anyway, my son even thinks its not that good anymore and hes 4.

Thing should be CGI like Hulk, that big almost that strong.

Also hated the Dr Doom they had.

Hulk is actually potentially stronger than superman.

A common misconception regarding supermans powers is that they are unlimited which simply isn't true. His speed and his strength, whilst hugely powerful, do have limits. It's been brought up in the comics (and was actually referenced in smallville the tv series) that the flash is actually faster than superman. Not by much but is faster.

As for the hulk it's widely known that his strength is unlimited. Basically he gets stronger as he gets angrier so his strength is only kinda limited by how angry he gets. Read the graphic novel dc vs marvel which is the first and only time the two big franchises have had characters facing off against each other. It's slightly predictable in that no one franchise comes out on top but the hulk vs superman section is very interesting. Superman wins, but only just and his passing comments at the end basically say he felt he was lucky and he could feel the hulk getting stronger as he was getting more angry as the fight went on and if it had lasted any longer he felt he might have lost. It was only supermans ability to control his powers and use his intellect that ensured he won.

Also regarding superman and his powers the comics introduced several variants of kryptonite (also used in smallville) that have different effects on his powers. Plus he can't see through lead which is another weakness. Plus his love of humans and his desire to protect all life can be used as a weakness.

And finally his biggest weakness of all is the fact that he draws his power from earths yellow sun. On krypton, whilst vastly more intelligent, kryptonians were no more powerful than humans are on earth due to the red sun of krypton.

In the story all-star superman he actually develops cancer as a result of too much expose to the sun. If he is away from earth for too long his powers will weaken and eventually fade.

Superman is powerful and yes, when he was created it was with the intention that he was practically invincible but this posed many problems over the years and so the comics gradually introduced more ways that superman could be vulnerable otherwise his character would just be boring as no one other than a fellow kryptonian would ever be able to match him.

Faster at running, not when supes is flying, which he can propel himself at almost unlimited velocity, only thing stopping him is the Universal speed barrioer, speed of light.

Going by movies and Comics, smallville he could not fkly so we never got to see.

In regards to Hulk I agree totally, Hulk just gets stronger, but as I said realistically superman can lift his weight and hold on, therefore could just fly into space where Hulk would freeze, or if that not enough, he could launch him towards sun and let go.

But if they went toe to toe, then eventually Hulk would be stronger than Superman.

Never a fan of the different coloured Kryptonite in Movies, comics or smallville LOL.

But yes Thats a fact that I supetrman was without sunlight he would eventually use all his stores of strength, but since he lives on Earth and sun comes up every day, he recharges every day LOL
