If you want to dabble in raw recipes you really cant go wrong with this book.
But this is it, the book I'd been waiting for! I loved the look of it, to start with, and it has a little stand thing so that you can have use it hands-free (so I read it while drinking a cup of tea and stroking a cat) - a nice touch. Then there is absolutely no flim-flammerie or ego to this, but simply a pile of useful and practical information.
I'd been reading it for a few minutes when I realised that I had the ingredients for two of the recipes already in my kitchen - so I went, and in about ten minutes I had made a chocolate raspberry smoothie (though I used cocoa powder and soymilk rather than carob and water because I'm not 100% virtuous yet) and flavoured water. I've tried to make my own flavoured water before - having fibromyalgia and arthritis I can't touch aspartame products, and almost all commercial flavoured water contains it - but without success. But the very simple recipes provided were great, and I made some very palatable apple water with no sweetening of any kind (and I have a VERY sweet tooth).
I'm also a very fussy eater (and my other half is worse!) but the recipes are very easily adaptable - for instance, as Other Half doesn't like parsnips we have Cauli Couscous instead of Parsnip Rice. It's all very easy, quick and delicious.
Other Half is now talking about buying a dehydrator and I'm wondering whether sprouting things may actually be worth it, rather than just buying alfalfa and radish sprouts at the local vegan organic co-op...what has been opened is not a can of worms but a can of delicious food!
Thank you Rebecca. This is the best raw book I've ever read or used, and it deserves to sell millions of copies.
