Jack Vettriano Hardcover – 28 Oct. 2004
About the Author
Jack Vettriano is entirely self-taught. A Scotsman of Italian descent, he left school at sixteen to become a mining engineer working down the Fife coalfields. For his twenty-first birthday a girlfriend gave him a set of watercolour paints and from then on, he spent much of his spare time teaching himself to paint. His first solo exhibition in Edinburgh was a sell-out and since then he has had solo exhibitions in London, Hong Kong and New York. Over the last twenty years, interest in Vettriano’s work has grown consistently. Vettriano’s best known painting, The Singing Butler, was sold at Sotheby’s for close to £750,000. He was awarded an OBE for Services to the Visual Arts. In 2013, a major twenty year Retrospective exhibition of Vettriano's work was staged at Kelvingrove art Gallery and Musuem in Glasgow. He lives in Edinburgh.

It is a fabulous book full of Jack Vettriano's iconic paintings plus interesting text regarding the development of these images.
It is far better than I expected.
The stupidities, jealousies and disdain of the so called experte of Edinburgh and Glasgow remain with only one gallery in Kircaldy-his home town-showing his pictures.
The boook is divided into 4 parts,
1987-1993 Tales of love and other stories
1994-1996 The passion and the pain
1997-2000 Lovers and other strangers
2001-2004 Affairs of the heart
All pictures are excellent many demonstrating menace and intense human relations.
It is high time the Scottish galleries mounted a retrospective exhibition of this artists work.
Love the book!
This book is picked up regularly by friends and family alike and they drool over these exquisite paintings. A good size book, a great buy and great paintings!!
The book also includes a limited amount of historical information on Vettriano's life, but this does not have a great deal of depth. The book is primarily intended as a collection of Vettriano's paintings however, and so I do not feel that the relative sparseness of information detracts from the book.
