With their debut album Overgrown Eden, Brit rockers InMe look set to steal a march on many of their American peers, just as Bush did back in the days of grunge. Striking the right pose and fuelled by the correct influences, they also have a keen ear for an infectious melody that's already seen them break into the UK singles charts. Singer-guitarist Dave McPherson, only 20, is a precocious talent, pitching his vocals between Gavin Rossdale's pained mellifluence and Kurt Cobain's cracked passion, and occasionally rising to a despondent Thom Yorke-style falsetto. Thus his voice is an eminently appropriate vehicle for his tales of communication breakdowns, plummeting confidence and spiralling overindulgence. Musically, InMe rise above their contemporaries' punky power-pop. The guitar on "Wound" chimes like early Sisters of Mercy, "Natural"'s vocals are oddly folky, while "Her Mask", with its ghostly whispers and Pink Floyd-style effects, veers towards prog. But this is not to say they don't rock. "Lava Twilight" and "Trenches" are both pop-metal epics, while the opening "UnderDose" and closing "Mosaic", both driven by churning bass, are simultaneously despairing and hugely ebullient. If there's a down point, it's McPherson's tendency to end lines with an affected death-metal grunt. That said, Overgrown Eden is the best Brit rock debut in ages. --Dominic Wills

...erm - me! I'm 34 in reply to a scathing review somebody posted. I decided to give the CD a listen just to double check - nope, it's still brilliant and the intro to Neptune still sends a shiver of pleasure down my spine. So I'm very sorry if that's not 'cool' in some eyes, but I know what I like when I hear it.
Answers on a postcard as to why I love Inme so much as I never got Nirvana, Korn make me sick and I hate Silverchair, all of who's influence I can see on Overgrown Eden. BUT I ADORE everything about this CD. Dave McPherson's voice and guitar playing are raw, passionate and emotional and immediately sucked me in.
I think the thing that sets this apart from most other post grunge Emo music (yawn!) to my ears is that it's done with 100% conviction and sincerity. It totally caught me off guard when I heard Underdose - I felt like I shouldn't like it, but I couldn't help myself. And then, damn it, I loved the other three singles too. It was even more surprising coming from a bunch of 'kids' who are almost young enough to be my sons.
This is one of those rare albums that I din't get an itchy finger and want to skip any tracks. Highlights for me are the swirling melancholy Wounds, Natural where Joe Morgan's backing vocals really come into their own, the beautiful Her Mask, Ice Warm with it's killer bassline, the twistedly upbeat Trenches and the aforementioned Neptune.

I reallyl ike this album It has some really good riffs and overall songs and also some nice Bass and drum only sections too.
I particularly like Crushed Like Fruit which opens with a rather catchy riff.
Dave Mcpherson has a very distinctive voice that Falsettos, and gravelly sings really well and also occasionally screams.
The music is very good and quite varied too. It is/was rather a fresh sound at the time sort of as alot of emphasise was placed on the bass due to only having one guitarist who was also singing. brilliant band. brilliant album.

Bought this album after losing my original copy and getting a taste for wanting to hear it again.

Many years later the album still stands out for me as an excellent debut from what was a group of kids at the time.

Fast energetic song flows onto the next without little pause for breath. Technical guitar playing and emotional vocal work leave this record sounding as relevant and fresh today as it always has.

One for the metal/nu metal fans of old, if rock isn't your thing, this definitely won't do it for you

I listened to this album a lot during my teenage years; the negative lyrics, combined with the nasally, rough vocals definitely appeals to that generation. I was never sure what genre to put this album in. It’s kind of Hard Rock, but maybe should be classified as Metal. I’d say there is a slight Grunge and Nu Metal influence to it too. Whatever you classify it as, I think the sound is pretty unique; I can’t think of a good comparison. There’s loads of energy in this album and I love the overall sound to this. Even though the ‘singing’ isn’t great, the choice of vocal approach is perfect for the album. A classic.

Zufall? Schicksal? Oder doch eher der unabwendbare Lauf der Dinge? Als ich vor gut 2 Jahren das Video zu "Neptune" von einer Band namens InMe sah, war ich fasziniert, aber nicht vom Hocker gerissen. Es sollte das einzige Mal sein, dass ich ein InMe Video im deutschen Fernsehen zu sehen bekommen sollte. Und doch war dieses eine Mal ein Glücksgriff, den ich sonst durch keine andere Band hatte. Wie bereits erwähnt, war der Song kein absoluter Hit für mich nach dem ersten Hören und ich dachte, dass ich nicht länger darüber nachdenken würde. Jedoch blieb mir die unvergleichbare Stimme des sehr jungen und talentierten Sängers Dave McPherson noch Tage danach im Gedächtnis. So entschied ich mich dazu, mir das Album "Overgrown Eden" mit einem gewissem Risiko zu kaufen, da ich nicht wusste, was mich erwarten würde ...
Der Rest ist Geschichte und die Debüt LP von den drei jungen Briten um Sänger und Gitarrist Dave McPherson, Bassist und Backing Vocalist Joe Morgan und Drummer Simon Taylor sollte für mich eines der besten, weil vor allem emotionalsten und eigenständigsten Alben der letzten Jahre sein. Zu den absoluten Stärken der, wie bereits erwähnt, sehr jungen Band (zur Zeit der Albumaufnahmen um die 17 / 18 Jahre alt !!!), gehören vor allem die stark vom Indie bis Hard Rock inspirierten Gitarren- und Bassriffs, die melodischen und episch angehauchten Mitsingrefrains, die tiefe Ausgefeiltheit der textlichen Seite und vor allem die unvergleichbare, emotionale Stimme des Dave McPherson, die von hohen Passagen bis zu sehr dunklen, schreienden Tönen reicht.
UNDERDOSE:
Ein Opener, wie man ihn sich wünscht - unvergesslicher Gitarrenriff, starker Refrain und rockig von Anfang bis Ende. "UnderDose" ist zugleich InMe's Einstieg in das Musikbusiness, da der Song als 1. Single veröffentlicht wurde.
FIREFLY:
"FireFly" ist ein Song mit dem sich vor allem viele Teenager identifizieren können. Er handelt von der Angst, jemanden, den man liebt, zu verlieren und sein Leben danach aufzugeben. Einer der stärksten Tracks und 2. Single des Albums.
WOUNDS:
Gilt unter vielen Fans als einer der absoluten Favoriten von "Overgrown Eden" und besticht vor allem durch die stimmliche Arbeit des Sängers - hier zeigt sich besonders gut, wo dieser Song bei anderen Bands untergegangen wäre, holt Dave McPherson gerade durch die Variation seiner Stimme eine gewaltige Emotion heraus.
LAVA TWILIGHT:
Wieder einer der härteren, metallischeren Songs, der ähnlich wie "UnderDose" durch einen starken Refrain auftrumpfen kann.
NATURAL:
"Natural" ist der Song, der am besten die Zusammenarbeit der Backing Vocals von Joe Morgan mit der melodieführenden Stimme vermittelt. Der Refrain entfaltet vor allem durch die Zweistimmigkeit seine wahre Kraft. Starker Rocksong, der besonders durch Refrain und Intro Riff an die B-Seite "Spur Of Moment" erinnert.
HER MASK (p.a.):
Einer der wenigen ruhigeren Stücke der LP. Besticht besonders von der textlichen Seite und zeigt, dass InMe auch Balladen bzw. ruhigere Songs schreiben können. "p.a." steht übrigens für "Planet Asylum".
ENERGY:
Dieser Song geht vielleicht ein bisschen unter der geballten Power der anderen Songs unter, ist aber auf einer Ebene mit dem rockigen "Lava Twilight" und keinesfalls schwach.
CRUSHED LIKE FRUIT:
Gnadenlose und energieerfüllte Gitarrenpassagen schlagen hier auf den Hörer ein und beweisen zweifellos, wie weit die drei Musiker in so jungem Alter schon sind. "Crushed Like Fruit" ist die 3. Singleauskopplung und wurde in der Video Version leicht verändert. Einer der rockigsten Songs des Albums.
ICEWARM:
Der zweite etwas ruhigere Song auf "Overgrown Eden", der jedoch im Verlauf härter und emotionaler wird. Trotz allem einer der Songs, die etwas im Schatten der absoluten Hits stehen.
TRENCHES:
"Trenches" ist einer meiner absoluten Favoriten und ist Fans von InMe seit der Zeit als "Drowned" (so hieß die Band vor InMe) bereits als "Alocin 200mg" bekannt. Hier geht ein wunderschöner Akustikpart in einen emotionsgeladenen Rockpart über, der seinesgleichen sucht. Ich kann mich noch immer an das erste Hören erinnern, als mir die Zeile "Peeling leeches off my heart" Gänsehaut auf meine Arme "zauberte".
NEPTUNE:
Der Song, der mich zu InMe brachte und schon seit der Zeit als "Drowned" besteht. Einer der herausragendsten Refrains und Riffs des gesamten Albums. "Neptune" wurde zurecht in einer finalen Version als 4. und letzte Single veröffentlicht.
MOSAIC:
Viele Fans sagen hier: "Save the best for the end". "Mosaic" ist ein absolut passender Album Closer und einer der absoluten Live Favorites. Die Basslinie, die Joe Morgan über den gesamten Song hinweg spielt, ist schlichtweg genial, genau so, wie der brachiale Intro Riff.
Man sollte InMe definitiv eine Chance geben. Stupide Vergleiche zu Nirvana oder anderen Grunge Bands sind hier völlig deplaziert. InMe sind eigenständig und werden vielen durch ihren Crossover aus Indie und Hard Rock für immer im Gedächtnis bleiben. Man sollte bei dieser Band auch die genialen B-Seiten beachten, bei denen vor allem der Song "Gelosea" heraussticht und für viele unverständlicherweise nicht auf dem Album gelandet ist.
Zu guter Letzt: die Leute, denen InMe gefällt, sollten sich auf das neue Album "White Butterfly" gefasst machen, welches nach langen Label Problemen nun doch Anfang 2005 erscheint. Die bereits veröffentlichen Songs "Faster The Chase" und "Otherside" (Download-Single auf der offiziellen Seite) sind meiner Meinung nach noch besser als das Debüt und deuten bereits an, was uns auf dem lang ersehnten Nachfolger erwarten wird.

若干２０歳というスリーピースの UKバンド。本国イギリスではシングルが３枚リリースされており、すでにKerrang! 誌の表紙を飾ったり超期待の奴等。彼らを知ったのは３枚目のシングルCrushed Like Fruitであるが、マジにイカしていると一発で思った。すごいクオリティの高い、パワーのあるバンドだと感じ、アルバムを迷わず購入。アルバムの出来は本当に良い。シングル曲の１、２曲目は当然のことながら、Lava Twilight や Neptuneなどのアルバム曲も非常に良い。
彼らは Nirvana、KORNなどの影響を受けたとのことであるが、彼らの楽曲は個人的にはStabbing Westward、Dizzy Mizz Lizzyなどを足して割った感じかと思います。購入に際して、輸入版と日本版を迷った場合オススメするのは日本版。ボーナス２曲とCrushed Like Fruit のビデオクリップ mpgが収録されていて、ついでにアルバム曲と若干ミックスが違って更に楽しめます。

Diese CD verdeutlicht, daß der Grunge in Angesicht von Nickelback noch nicht gänzlich komerzialisiert ist. Die Musik ist mehr als Post-Grunge, es ist eine Mischung aus Alternativ und Grunge. Sowohl melankolische, Party-, als auch wütende Songs sind vertreten, also ist die CD nicht eintönig. Dabei steht die kräftige, rauhe Stimme des Sängers im Vorgrund. Wirklich eine Bereicherung für jede gute CD-Sammlung.
