Amazon.co.uk Review
The Yelo 800DVD is an "out of the box" autosensing multi-region DVD player. However, this isn't its only attractive feature. Add to this a built-in Dolby Digital decoder, playback support for discs ranging from MP3 to CD-RW, and a comprehensive set of connections, and you begin to wonder how this is all crammed into the box while retaining an attractive price tag. Our first fears were allayed, in that the build quality was robust, the player coming in a well-built black casing with a solid and reliable centrally mounted drive transport. Connecting the player was straightforward once it was established which of the plethora of connections on the back best suited the individual set-up. There are video connections via SCART, S-Video, composite and the RGB component, plus audio outputs in analogue, optical and co-axial digital outs, plus the six channel outputs from the built in 5.1 decoder. Our only disappointment was that there weren't double SCART sockets, which can be useful when combining with a TV and VCR setup. The image quality is impressive, with sharp definition in both the shadows and highlights, plus good colour balance with accurate fleshtones. The audio is equally impressive, doing an especially good job of audio CD playback, which many DVD players struggle to do well. The onscreen display (OSD) and menus were intuitive, and while the remote control is not the most attractive we've seen, it is both comfortable and comprehensive. The Yelo 800DVD is a truly impressive player that redefines the budget DVD player marketplace by producing a feature-rich player without compromises. --J. Weston
