    Greetings from Earth - The Art of Bob Eggleton ist ein reinrassiger Bildband des vielfach ausgezeichneten Fantasy und Science Fiction Award Trägers Bob Eggleton. In diesem Buch sammelt er alle Bilder der letzten Jahre, die ihn bekannt und berühmt gemacht haben und fügt an passender Stelle einige Kommentare hinzu, genauso wie Anekdoten aus seiner Jugend und Ausbildung.
    Das Buch ist in mehrere Abschnitte gegliedert, die von Naturphänomenen, über Dinosaurier, Drachen, Cthullu und Landschaftsaufnahmen, sowie klassische Fantasy und Science Fiction, bis hin zum Surrealismus reichen, jedoch niemals den unverkennbaren Stil Eggletons vermissen lassen. Was den Bildband für Drachenfans jedoch so einzigartig macht ist Eggletons unnachahmliche Art und Weise Drachen zu malen. Einen Großteil des Buches kann somit der geneigte Fan in Acryl-, Öl- und Wasserfarbenbildern schwelgen, die einen fantastischen Detailreichtum aufweisen und auch bei mehrfacher Betrachtung immer neue Elemente enthüllen. Die Drachen wirken hierbei lebensecht und doch teilweise so unnahbar fremd und bedrohlich, wie sie aus einschlägigen Geschichten bekannt sind. So finden sich in diesem Buch beispielsweise viele Bilder wieder, die zur Illustration oder Einbandgestaltung vieler in der Drachenszene berühmten Bücher oder Serien verwendet wurden (z.B. „Saga von den letzten Drachenlords", „Obsidian Chroniken").
    Für mich persönlich ist das Buch eine Bereicherung des heimischen Bücherregals, die Art der Motive und die Technik sprechen mich als Drachenfan sehr an. Leider finde ich, dass das Buch für den Titel „Greetings from Earth" einfach zu viele Science Fiction Bilder außerhalb jenes namensgebenden blauen Planeten aufweist, obwohl die Bilder mich natürlich nicht minder ansprechen und Eggleton selbst sagt, dass dieses Buch von der Wiege der Welt, bis zur hochentwickelten Zukunft geleiten soll. Als Sammlerobjekt für Eggleton Fans kann ich diesen Bildband abschließend jedoch uneingeschränkt empfehlen.
