- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 January 2014I found this subject delightful and full of first hand knowledge on the subject, however I found the pages a little outdated for the subject that appears to be a fairly new age development in terms of the content,
I would like to see this book adapted with full upto date explanations, pictures in full colour, of the productive, prospective examples of a good postion to undergo and maintain this form of living and what can or cannot be acheived from this kind of accomadation.
All in all I feel pround to own a copy of this rare book.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 February 2000Sadly this book is badly written and poorly presented. The terminology used is clearly aimed at someone who already knows a great deal about earth sheltered housing so for someone interested in an introduction to the subject it is not suitable. Neither is it very inspiring with poorly taken black and white photos and scrappy illustrations. There are better books out there.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 December 2002I found this book an excellent read. It is aimed at economical, low cost construction so may not be the book for you if you are thinking of a sophisticated reinforced concrete space-age structure, although you could still find useful design tips! There are a lot of diagrams and illustrations with design and detailing tips drawn from actual experience and it really is packed with information. If you are not technically minded, persevere, as a lot of it is common sense and you can learn a great deal.
Bear in mind that this book is American and although there is no doubt the structures are substantial and practical, getting permission to build them will involve local planning and building regulations which may differ from those used for the original structures.

S. HerrickReviewed in the United States on 7 April 20115.0 out of 5 stars my underground house book
This book came to me in perfect condition and ready for me to read. The content of the book is not only interesting but an easy read. I really felt like the author was talking to me and trying to make me understand the concepts of building an underground house, which I really liked since it feels personable. Even if you don't want to read it cover to cover, it is quite a good reference book to go to when getting more serious about your building plans. This book not only provides informative insight but also gives pictures and models of the plans the author writes about. All in all, I am excited to have this book in my mini library to simply take off the shelf to study on my leisure. Two thumbs up!
