Product description

From the Back Cover

From their first steps in Europe in the mid-1960s during the revolutionary Don Revie era, to Champions League football, Leeds have been a force to be reckoned with in European competition.

This evocative collection of action shots, team groups, programme covers and cartoons illustrates the story of United through the triumphs and disappointments of epic struggles against the best teams on the Continent. This includes the winning of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1968 and 1971 (by virtue of beating Ferencvaros and Juventus), narrow final defeats (notable against A C Milan and Bayern Munich), victories decided on the toss of a coin (Bologna and Napoli), the scandal of 1973 and, more recently, the wins over Roma and Spartak Moscow that have whetted the appetite for Champions League action.

About the Author

Written by David Saffer and Howard Dapin, the authors of the highly acclaimed Images of Sport: Leeds United, and several other books on the club, this is an essential read for anyone who wishes to recapture the glamour of United's European exploits.

Format: Paperback
This is a great little book (128 pages) that captures the essence and excitement of Leeds United venturing into Europe from 1965 onwards. Heaps of pictures, programme photos, newspaper cuttings combine to make a great pictorial.
I also learnt that a certain Fabio Capello was on the losing side when Leeds beat Juventus for the Fairs cup in 1971 !
As with most 'record' books, unfortunately this was out of date as soon as it was published, as Leeds were about to venture into the Champions League in 2000-01. In hindsight, a little frustrating that it didnt hang on to capture the thrill of the Champions League adventure, especially since it's probably going to be a couple of years before we are back there!!
Worth it, though.
