There are various generations of eneloop batteries with Sanyo producing the first 3 generations. In 2013 Sanyo was acquired by Panasonic and the 4th generation (BK-4MCCE) was introduced. Other variants were also introduced by Panasonic.
The HR-3UTGB Eneloops are the 3rd and last (standard eneloop) generation produced by Sanyo. They are top quality NiMH offering:
- 1900 to 2000mAh (Minimum - Typical)
- Astounding 1800 charge cycles (2100 cycles on the Panasonic BK-4MCCE)
- Awesome charge retention through the years: 90% after 1 year / 80% after 3 years / 70% after 5 years
- Batteries are pre charged by the factory, (albeit to approx 75%) so they can be used straight away
The sturdy eneloop safe boxes can store 4 AA or 5 AAA batteries each
Tip: In order to achieve maximum longevity, use a quality smart charger designed for NiMH batteries. In contrast to dumb chargers, these will monitor the voltage of each individual battery and avoid under / overcharging.
These batteries will last for many years, and given the price they should definitely be on your short list!
They arrived charged, and I understand both from reviews on other sites as well as my own observations that the technology in these batteries is substantially better than previous generation rechargables - they keep the charge for longer, and last for many more cycles of recharging.
From my first couple of months of use (mostly in my childrens toy Thomas trains) i can tell you that they seem to last a little longer than previous generation rechargable batteries, although this is a very subjective observation, and i am not measuring in any particular way.
I would say that they do what I want them to do, and beyond the slightly higher cost, I am very happy with them.
Finally, if you are considering these, it is very worth while investing in a 'smart' recharger (that wont overcharge the batteries); these cost more than a standard recharger, but will keep the life span of these batteries better.
*These are Panasonic Eneloops, not Sanyo as advertised - many people would buy these as the old Sanyo branded ones have a better reputation
*They are not in original sealed packaging
They also seem a bit marginal on capacity using my C9000 charger, but I am not that familiar with how eneloops normally behave. They do meet minimum spec (1900mah) after 16h 0.1C charge and 400mA discharge - but only just.
They do appear to be genuine Eneloop, and made in Japan. They seem to hold their charge like an LSD NiMH should
The seller did offer to replace with Sanyo Eneloops after I contacted them but I kept these as I needed them and they're working OK
Overall I expected better for the money
