I got this primarily to have an emergency backup when hiking, however I find it most useful when traveling. It is light, robust, easy to clean, you can start using it immediately with no problems after storing it for a while. It has a nice discrete shape and design. I was recently in Mexico for a month and used this exclusively with tap water, and never got sick. 1600L is no joke, even using it twice a day it will last 2 years, and considering the price super value.

Some cons are: I have had some issues with leaking when it is not upright, and it is a big pain to squeeze filtered water out- it takes aaaaaaaages to fill a 2L bladder using this method, it's not even worth it. And I wish there was an easier way to keep track of the filter lifespan.

I would recommend this product, and hope to keep on using it for many years to come.

Excellent product. Used traveling in Asia between a family of 4 so a lot of time spent on squeezing the bottle so I would probably buy one of the other higher volume versions. When you get the knack it should take about 2 minutes to fill a 1.5 liter bottle. The bottle itself can be difficult to drink out so we just used to fill a couple water bottles.

Pros: The water tastes excellent (we just used hotel bathroom taps etc and had no issues) and nobody got sick during a 4 week trip. Also, where we were, hotels and the like used to burn plastic water bottles out the back so at least we didn't contribute to that. It easily paid for itself by the time the trip was over and was still going strong even after filtering approximately 8+ liters a day. For me, the big plus is that we didn't end up buying hundreds of plastic bottles.

Cons: You have to check the filter is securely tightened every so often because ours fell off a couple of times which ended up with unfiltered water in our drinking vessel. Also, ours leaked out of the side of the cap so I am not sure if this was a fault with the one we got.

I would definitely buy again.

Great technology poor execution.

The technology in this is amazing. I've been using it for nearly two months whilst traveling in Africa and have been impressed. It reduces the need for plastic bottles and saves me money.

However, as mentioned I've only been using for two months and it's nearly shut down (filter clogged). It says it can do you 1600l I've maybe done 250l max and I've only ever used tap water with it. I would understand if I'd been drinking out of a lake.

I was hoping it would last the full 5 month I'm in Africa but I can hardly get anything out of it now.

Also the design is quite clever but it's execution isn't good enough. The flip spout pops off sometimes when you open it and the rubber ring below which is supposed to stop water from leaking moves sometimes so it leaks in your bag or when your using it.

Overall it does work and if you're going away for a few weeks it's a good option at the price point. Never tried any of the other ones on the market so can't compare.

I bought the Travel Tap to backpack around Peru for a month and think it's one of the best investments I've ever made! When all the other backpackers were having to find supermarkets to buy 2L bottles of water before a long trek, I was able to just fill up from hostel taps and rivers in the jungle. I didn't get sick once and really trusted it. It leaked a few times when my bag was left on it's side but that's no big deal. Really recommend this product to cut down on the amount of plastic bottles you buy when travelling!

India Did Not Give Me Delhi Belly

Having been warned about dodgy water in India I decided to invest in a DrinkSafe Travel Tap. I only drank the water from the Travel Tap and did not eat any Street Food, so whether I can put this down to the Travel Tap I cannot say for definite, but I did not suffer from Delhi Belly or any kind of upset. For me that was such a great relief (no pun intended) I cannot think of any reason not to invest £27 on this item if you are travelling to an area known to have dodgy water. When I go walking I will also be taking this with me, rather than lugging a number of bottles of water.

I bought this for a camping trip on the West Highland Way so as a backup to reduce the weight of water I needed to carry. It was pretty hot and
I used it a few times from streams and once from River Coe. I'm paranoid so I chucked in a chlorine tablet as well. Some of the stream water was a bit discoloured. Water that came out the tap was clear and tasted great, couldn't tell there had been chlorine added. More importantly I didn't get the trots. So it seems to remove the chlorine and any nasties the chlorine didn't get.

I had an earlier version from a few years ago and this is a distinct improvement, it used to take ages to squeeze water out into a second bottle, this is much faster.

I'd have liked some kind of fastening on the top of the bottle that could be used to hook it to a strap on a rucksack to make sure it couldn't fall out of an external water bottle pocket. Nalgene's are great for that. The wrist strap thing is fairly useless to me.
