    It's alright but not great
    I'm a heating engineer, I bought this thinking it'd be able to detect heat source under floorboards and inside boxings, like heating pipes and hot water pipes. My hope was this would help me with saving time in finding leaks under floorboards when the water's hot , but unfortunately if any thing is in front of the heat source, even just a cloth it won't detect the heat.

      I needed this to solve a central heating problem, no it can't see through walls if that's what you're expecting, but if used correctly it can highlight irregularities in the heat patterns, I am now using it for far more jobs in my house and family and friends, so easy to find heat loss points and detect hotspot in wiring etc, would highly recommend if you know how to use one and what you expect it to do, wish I had bought one earlier great value and will pay for itself in no time

      Got this tool as I wanted to understand why I was getting some cool areas in the house. I was apprehensive as it could have turned out to be not much better than a toy. In the end I needn't have worried about it. A very useful tool which has reasonable thermal resolution. The laser pointer is useful for showing where the camera is pointing and the screen graphics seem pretty clear. The display sometimes freezes for a short-ish time, but normally becomes responsive within half a second or so.

      I'm giving it 5 stars as I purchased when a promotion gave it a good discount. At full price, maybe 4 stars?

      These things are expensive, but very good at showing there areas of a room are colder than normal. Haven't tried it outside on the exterior yet.

      Adding an updated review of the E02 and of HIKMICRO company in general.
      After buying the E01 I left a 3* review because I felt it was not up to my expectations and I returned it immediately.
      After this, I was contacted by HIKMICRO and they offered me a deal on the E02 which I must say is a far better unit. The images are clearer and the information it provides seems to be more defined and of more use. And the build quality is the same and very good.
      I would suggest going for the E02 (especially if it's on special price deal) as the extra cost would appear to be worth it.
      As a company, they appear to be highly focused on customer service and I was very impressed.

      I had hoped for something more, maybe my expectations were too high, and this is all you get for the money. It just didn't give me the data I needed when looking at the house and identifying cold spots.
      It did pick out the underfloor heating, but the resolution just didn't give me the detail I was after.
      But it was a well-made bit of kit and if the images are good enough for you, there is certainly nothing to complain about in terms of build quality.

      I actually bought it to try and locate a rat living in our roof space.
      It didn't really work for that as i think the insulation is too thick to detect the body heat of the rat.

      I gonna keep it anyway as I think it will come in handy!

      I bought this for finding cold spots for before, during and after doing insulation work. Although the image is small, it provides a lot of information. It also has 101 other uses, like finding where cold draughts are actually coming from, finding hotspots in electrical equipment/switchgear, etc. Also useful for finding your dog in the garden when it is dark (and she is hiding from you). It is well build and robust. Images can be transferred over a USB cable. There is also reasonable flexibility when setting the range and colours displayed (as well as the default auto range setting facility).

      I'm very pleasantly surprised. This is my first time having a thermal imaging device like this. I thought for a bit, let's get one of those little thingies that you plug onto a cell phone, but I didn't like the idea of that tugging at the usb/charging port of the phone which risks the phone developing a problem. I also didn't like the idea of some crummy foreign app that might ask for unholy permissions.
      So this one has the screen built. The price is very competitive. I went with the bottom model of the series, and it's great! Right away I can see around the house where the heat losses are! I'm seeing gaps along the corners along the ceiling especially, and more so in some rooms. Also seeing along the ceiling, patches where it's cooler. Seems I might benefit of thickening up the insulation in the attack. It's a loose foam bits material. It should be topped up, and perhaps along the corners something solid should be mounted.
      I also see the wiring that leads to the electric hot water tank reach 20C.
      Pointing it at the electrical panel, I'm seeing the breakers that operate the rooms with space heaters currently in it, at an elevated temperature.
      I like being able to see in the dark like this. A whole thermal world opens up with this thing.
      It might help trouble shoot issues, or help diagnose performance issues of an electric vehicle.
      It's also fun. The kids right away want to play hide and seek with it, lol.
      Fun watching the cat chase a laser in pitch dark.
      Perhaps I might be able to detect animals outside with it.
      It's built very solid. Everything is of high quality. The casing, various rubber parts to it, screen, buttons, it's all done really well. The menu system is logical too.
      So yeah, this baby is a totally winner and super handy tool. Perhaps I might save money on heating soon that'll offset the cost of this. Get it! This very one is great! I got the E01.
