With their 1978 double concert album, Little Feat staked their claim as one of the premier live bands of the 1970s. Recorded over a series of dates in London and Washington, D.C. over the summer of 1977, 'Waiting for Columbus' vividly captures the L.A. sextet at a crossroads between its swampy mid-70's fusion of blues, country, jazz and New Orleans R&B. This 8CD super deluxe edition comprises the original album remastered across CDs 1 and 2 with the remaining 6 discs comprising 3 previously unreleased in full live shows from the original run of live recordings that comprised the 'Waiting for Columbus' album. The 8CD will be packaged in a box approx. 7-inch x 7-inch; CDs are housed in wallets in cut-out at bottom of box and will feature a 24 page booklet.

    I don't generally listen to live albums but "Waiting For Columbus" together with "Europe 72" by the Grateful Dead are among my favourite rock albums.

    I've not heard an original pressing of "Waiting For Columbus" but if it outdoes this re-mastered LP I doubt whether the difference in quality is likely to be significant - this is a very impressive pressing both in its re-mastering and the quality of the pressing itself. Buying vinyl LPs these days is pretty hit and miss when it comes to the quality of pressings many of which suffer from worse sound quality than old secondhand charity shop buys.

    Highly recommended.

    5 stars for the music in, what is considered, one of the great live albums. I've been waiting years for a vinyl reissue and having played it i'm convinced this is a digital recording .The drums have no reverb and the guitar tones are too sharp. It is claimed that this is cut from the 'original master tapes'. That maybe so but i'm suspicious that, like the current Mobile Fidelity controversy, there has been a digital step taken along the way. If anyone reads this and has thoughts on this issue i would be most interested to read them.

    Superbly presented and well thought out set to flesh out Waiting For Columbus - not the perfect live album but not far off.... with Little Feat you need all the best bootlegs as well to really get the full picture.
    It is great to have the three contributory shows in their full glory sounding great.
    I have one grievance which is why one star is missing.
    Now I could be wrong, but.... I have had for years a rough bootleg of the Rainbow show and Mercenary Territory is performed half way through the set, humorous intro, a bit ragged, longer opening section... It's always been interesting to hear as an alternative to the outstanding version that ended up on WFC after Lowell overdubbed it from a soundcheck, as widely reported historically. But on the Rainbow disc in the set, Mercenary Territory is the same version as on WFC so it overrides the true bootleg version.
    Now this could be considered nit-picking, but Mercenary Territory is such an awesome song and the WFC version soars so high, it is just brilliant.
    Anyway, maybe someone can correct me but that's what I'm hearing....
