This is the album that introduced me to Shania Twain in 1995 (as this is a 25th Anniversary Edition - I guess that must be right!) and still contains some of my favorite Shania songs.

As the label says, this is a Remaster – so it’s been repressed from the Original Mix of the Premaster tapes – cleaned up by modern technology to reduce noise, eq curves and dynamic compression level to enhance and balance the sound quality of the original. Basically its removing all the hisses and crackles on the original. It is not a remix – so it’s the same old album – only better!

This was Shania’s second album. It followed her 1993 self-titled release, of which was part of a large marketing campaign by Mercury for three new “country” artists. That first album failed to get much attention certainly here, but also in the USA & Canada.
However, "The woman In Me" took off rather better. In the US it produced 8 singles (a time when they were “officially released” as such, rather than any track downloaded!), 4 of which reaching number 1 in the US Country Charts & 6 in Canada. It also saw her first single release here in the UK; “Any Man Of Mine” – where Terry Wogan gave it some air play on radio 2 (good old Terry!). Although it failed to chart in UK it was her first US # 1. I liked it so much I splashed out for the album! And jolly pleased I did.

I’m not a big “Country fan” (although I do like Big Country), and Shania is often described as a “crossover” artist combining Country with Pop. This album less “poppy” than Come On Over, but not too Countryfied!

This change from the first album was largely credited to the collaboration with Mutt Lange, whom she married at the end of 1993. Mutt had previously produced albums for The Boomtown Rats, The Cars, Bryan Adams AC/DC & Def Leppard. They co-wrote all of the tracks on this album (apart from “Leaving Is The Only Way Out” – a Shania solo composition) as well as all of the tracks for her next two albums. They married in 1993 and “produced” a son in 2001.

    Back to the album…
Sadly – the cover is similar to the original release so not a lovely new Gate Cover but standard one. Although... there is a full colour (mostly red) inner sleeve with the complete lyrics, so you can sing along if you really must! The original just contained the song titles and additional pretty pictures.

I’m not too sure where the confusion was with there being Triple Vinyl rather than a Single “LP” (showing my age). I know sometimes Amazon can make mistakes, but I pre-ordered this when first listed – together with the Deluxe Triple CD. I don’t recall there being anything misleading. I also kept an eye on it – hoping it would go down and checking the release date (which did change from 2nd October to 9th!). The track listing for the triple Box Set [CD] says CD1, CD2, and CD3.
I guess it comes down to what the Amazon [Star] Rating is for – the actual product itself or Amazons own delivery, packaging, Service etc. All is of course relevant!

I won’t review the songs as such – as this is a review of the Diamond Issue, However…
    For completeness – here’s a brief overview:

Rather unusually the album opens with a ballad albeit a great ballad, “Home Ain't Where His Heart Is (Anymore)”. It’s beautifully arranged but the lyrics are full of betrayal and heartbreak! As I said an odd choice for an opening album. Other great ballads include “The Woman In Me (Needs The Man In You)” a grand choice for a wedding song! “Raining On Our Love” the solo composition, is a full on country ballad – I’m thinking a slow waltz with my best gal (the wife of course) at the end of an evening in a typical all American bar.
My favourite track remains the second one (I still think this should have been the opener) “Any Man Of Mine”. This is the upbeat fun country/pop song full of guitar & violins as well as tongue-twisting lyrics – check out the “remastered” video of this track too. Equally fun is “whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?”
“(If You're Not In It For Love) I'm Outta Here!” could well have been on “Come On Over” due the more Pop style of arrangement – together with “You Win My Love” and “No-one Needs To Know” is a right old toe tapper!

I've missed a couple - but the closing song “God Bless The Child”, not the Arthur Herzog Jr. one but no less spiritual, is a short 1:30 haunting ditty sung beautifully a cappella.

    Enjoy....
