No…No…No no no no no no..NO!!! You can not be serious right now!! It can’t end there!! (Frantically swiping my Kindle) Damn you Kennedy Fox!! You do this to me every single time, and I never learn!!

I feel as though I am suffering from an anxiety attack right now. No book has affected me as much as the books in this series. As soon as the book appears on my Kindle, I cancel EVERYTHING, and lock myself away with no interruptions. I then read said book and die on the spot as I reach the end. Every.Single.Time. If I didn’t love my Kindle as much as I do, I would have probably tossed it across the room! Book one is always a killer in the Checkmate series, because it always ends in a cliffhanger. Which I don’t actually mind, it’s just I forget it’s coming. It’s like BANG!! Mwhahaha!! I am then left overanalysing everything I have just read and what the possibilities of what is to come in book two. I’m left with one almighty book hangover until the next book is released.

This is book 1 in the Logan & Kayla Saga-a second-chance romance. You don’t need to read any of the other Checkmate series to enjoy this one, but is always recommended as they are both introduced in the earlier books.

I have loved each duet and the characters they focus on, my favourite being Courtney and Drew. Saying that I have always had my eye on Logan and Kayla, and cannot tell you how excited I was to have an advanced copy flash up on my Kindle. I have been literally DYING to get inside these characters heads and let me tell you they do not disappoint.

If you have been following the series in order then you will be aware at the end of the last book, Checkmate: This is Effortless, we were left with Kayla texting Courtney saying she had found out who the mystery Skylar was.

Woooooah, like god damn in hell what have I just read. Seriously, this duo have managed YET AGAIN to suck me in, slap me upside down & spit me out, with an ending that frickin ruined me.. AGAIN. Like my poor little fragile heart can take it (inserts 10 cry face emoji or a dramatic gif lol)

I'm a huge HUGE fan of this pair & their sublime storylines that wrap around the most addictive characters. Each duet in the Checkmate series I have seriously crushed hard on & to be fair, my love affair with Drew & Court was EPIC, but I gotta say.. Logan & Kayla have stomped right on over my heart, rain danced on my soul & made it perfectly clear that they won't be moved, or give up their crown.

Omg this pair are just sooo special. Both damaged, both broken & both carrying a whole world of baggage, yet no matter how much they try to resist & how much they play the emotional game of push-pull, i loved how they couldn't keep on fighting their sizzling connection, or the deep desire to be THAT someone special.

Logan has always touched me & in my heart I knew I would simply love this man no matter what, but wowser. He is caring, protective & loyal, with a super soft squishy heart once he allows you to see it. When he loves, he loves hard, it's wholesome, passionate & unconditional. This man gave me serious butterflies in all the right gooey places as he finally allows his gorgeous heart to soar.

Kayla. Now she is hands down one of my fav heroines. Omg the truth & honestly in what she has lived through & how it's moulded her to be this strong, beautiful passionate woman, one who will literally give her all to the things she holds the dearest in life is just breath taking. She is pure & kind, she is the bright light in the darkness & she deserves to be loved more than anyone.

Logan and Kayla have been skirting around the chemistry between them since their introduction at the beginning of the series. Despite the unique electricity they create when they are together Logan is determined to ignore what can only be viewed as inevitable.

Logan is ultimately a good guy with a lot of emotional baggage, denying himself the chance of happiness he could have with Kayla under the misguided belief that he isn't good enough for her. Logan has a few secrets king beneath his chivalrous exterior, although they aren't entirely what I expected. Instead of Logan's mysterious private life diminishing his appeal the revelations served to endear him further. He is the ultimate good guy who has been shaped by some of the negative events in his life.

Kayla is the embodiment of an angel, she is determined to make a difference to humans and animals alike especially in helping them find a place to belong. Growing up in foster care, Kayla has allowed the experience to shape her in a positive manner when it would have been easier to close herself off she turned her painful background into a valuable tool to prevent others from experiencing the loneliness she endured. Even her chosen career of interior design stemmed from her desire to create a better environment for the people in it.

I loved seeing the relationship between Logan and Kayla develop through This is Dangerous as well as getting to know more about them and the events that have shaped them into the people they have become. Including uncovering their deepest secrets, it would seem that Logan isn't the only one with skeletons in his closet!!!
