I didn't expect to like this game nearly as much as I have been. I thought it was mostly just going to be a somewhat-repetitive space game (with the typical Ubisoft gameplay) which I was mostly buying for a really cool-looking physical Arwing.
And I'm very glad to be wrong about that. The game's fantastic.
First, some info on the Switch Starter Edition specifically: While you only get physical versions of the Arwing (+wings), 2 weapons, Fox and Mason... you actually also get digital versions of the Zenith (+wings) and the Shredder Mk. 1 weapon too. (These are the physical toys you get in the PS4/XB1 Starter Editions). This technically means that you get 2 ships, 4 wings, 2 pilots and 3 weapons if you choose to play without the toys. (Scanning a toy lets you use that part "digitally" for 7 days, but scanning it again refreshes that timer) Basically, there's more content here than I was expecting. (But I like playing with a physical Arwing so... I never really used the bonus ship or weapon.)
All the different weapons function wildly differently and it's fun to come up with different combinations which complement eachother. (I decided to get 5, or 6 if you include the digital Shredder) Plus, you can mod both the weapons and your ships (Two ships here, or 3 if you include the digital Zenith) to further augment their capabilities. I normally end up rocking my Arwing with the Levitator / Frost Barrage combo with energy mods so that I can keep firing without cooldown. Levitator holds the enemy in place, then the Frost Barrage causes a Cryo-Blast freezing any other enemies nearby (and doing massive damage). It's fun.
And the gameplay itself is good too. There are a bunch of "Ubisoft-style" (for lack of a better term) quests with repeated objectives and generic rewards, but progression in the main story allows you to unlock things which helps skip a lot of the tedium. Don't like taking out each and every Extractor yourself? Build an Armoury and let other people do the work for you. Not fond of exploring the entire planet to get everything on your map? Build or upgrade an existing Observatory and they'll scan a very large area around themselves for you. Dislike the time-consuming space travel with Outlaws constantly interrupting you? Take out a nearby Outlaw Base in space, and you can use it as a fast travel point. Understanding what each building and mechanic does helps to cut back a LOT of the tedium which people complain about.
My only real complaint is that my original copy of the game had the Arwing unable to properly connect to the mount (ie: faulty product), but I got it replaced and all is good. For a game I originally bought just because I was vaguely interested and it was on sale, I've ended up playing it way more than I expected.
(Note: Review written from about halfway into the game... at least, I assume I'm halfway. I'm about to fight the first Dreadnaught.)

I bought the physical version of the game and have been adding the ships physically to my collection. This is just a nice touch as they're well made, the pilots, ships and weapons can all individually be swapped about and it looks nice on the shelf.
The Nintendo switch version implements Fox really well into the game. He isn't merely an add on character but has his own story and is placed into in game cut-scenes really smoothly/ has his own. His ship looks great and his crew can appear to help throughout the game using the L tab.
The game itself is easy to pick up and get going, as well as rather addictive. I won't spoil anything however the story is simple enough, but with enough substance to keep it interesting. The npc's in the game are again interesting enough, if a bit repetitive.
The real joy of the game is the fighting. On planet there is a back and forth between the enemy for control of planets, areas and bases . In space you are ambushed by enemies that really have it out for you! The controls are easy to use and pick up, and the ai is intelligent enough to keep battles interesting and at times make the game quite challenging. Lives are basically ships; if your ship gets destroyed you swap to a new one until you run out. This can mean having extra ships makes the game easier, however I have found that you can complete the game with just the basic pack, but side missions etc do need various weapons (if you can't be bothered to find work arounds i.e. finding a compatible explosive in world). As such it is not in anyway a pay to win game, but paying a little more for these ships and guns makes the game easier and quicker.
You can never leave your ship, but this doesn't take away from exploration as you can pick things up, sell things and scan wildlife.
The game takes place on seven different worlds, each with its own life, missions and 'atmosphere'. Getting to and from planets is smooth and feels really exciting.
All in all it is a really fun game, with a bonus of toys to life. You can get the full game digitally, which I believe works out cheaper, however physical seems to be getting plenty of offers and adds a really nice touch to your shelf. Also physical is satisfying switching weapons and pilots about (you don't even have to pause game).
Highly recommend.

A great game love the starfox tie in about time the switch got more content than ps4,xb1
As in the lego game and skylanders game
Can get expensive quick
£10 for 2 plastic weapons really
The wing on my ship is very loose already day 1 so my fear is there not going to last long dont ever drop your joypad ship will break and at £25 a ship.. You can get a game for that
When you look at the game it could of just been made as a game no ships figures
That dont do much
If you have big hands ship might get in your way and learn your buttons as you cant see or check what thay are
So the game id give 4 stars
The ships guns figures 2 stars
Just a cash cow
