It’s not that often you really get to know a fictional character, who’s an ordinary bloke; that’s if you can describe being in the British military as ordinary. Book three of a Life of Choice takes the reader further into the career of Jim Faulkner. In this volume he battles himself a lot of the time with his ups and downs with girlfriends, friendships and his personal battle with alcohol. And, of course, his strivings to excel in his career. What I like about the character is the moral underpinning to his behaviour and his sense of justice and fair play. All of this gets tested in this instalment. He also has a wicked sense of humour. I’ve been pleased to spend many more hours with him in this third of a four part series. As always we are left on a cliffhanger, wondering if he is going to take the next step he’s planned. Now I’ll have to be patient and wait for the next instalment. I recommend this series but start with part one and work your way through. Jim Faulkner is worth spending time with…Just hope part four will be published soon!
