Product description

Product Description

French horror maestro, Jean Rollin directs this zombie classic where young, nubile women are disappearing without trace in a small lakeside town. The superstitious locals blame The Lake of Ghosts , but the town's mayor (Howard Vernon) is unwilling to investigate. When another woman is found dead with her throat ripped out, a reporter discovers that the lake harbours a terrible secret dating back to World War II. Now the locals must become resistance fighters once again - and take on the returning Nazi zombie Stormtroopers who are back from the dead!

A classic from begining to end. Whether a devotee of bad dubbing, terrible music, Green Nazis or lots of female flesh this film is a must. The swimming scenes are pure Esther Williams, I now know where the phrase "Muff diving" originated.

Nazis under water, what more could you ask for . The story line is not exactly linear. sometimes there's a Zombie attack and suddenly they've gone. The daughter of the Nazi appears to be aged 12 yet the film seems set in the 1970's so she's aged a bit strangely seeing that she is born in 1944 !

The women's basket ball team are magnificant specimins of pulchritude, though I think a nude basket ball game would have made it even better . Some of the other peasant girls killed are not so pretty and in these cases you are just shown a bit of thigh or cleavage.
Peasants with American accents who fire guns like they used to in 1930's cowboys.
It is sad that the romance plot wasn't strenghened to show the poignancy of war relationships but you can't have everything

The battle scenes with explosions - Wohhhhh ! Makes Apocalypse now look like a tea party.
Go on buy or rent it. It's even better after about eight pints and a lamb passanda !

If you like your films to contain lots of naked female flesh, awful music, atrocious storyline and a generous helping of awful dubbing then I would suggest sticking with those 'special' films you keep under the bed! If on the other hand you fancy a daft zombie romp with all the above mentioned you could do a lot worse than this unintentionally funny horror (?) film. It really is hilarious and that's just the way in which the director comes up with interesting ways for the girls to disrobe (he's called A.J Lazer by the way!!!)... then there's the make up!!!
If you like a silly slice of horror porn then you may just find this film amusing and take a chance on it, if on the other hand you are expecting 'The Ring' like twists and shocks and expert storytelling I'd look elsewhere as you'll be very disappointed indeed!

This dvd by Redemption has the same special features as the "Image" one except for some new trailers.
We can see the "clothed scenes" ;) and the alternate English title sequence. The movie can be played with english or french audio (english subs).

Otherwise known as "Zombie Lake", this wonderful piece of useless pap is so bad that I actually enjoyed it. Nazi zombies lurk at the bottom of an inky lake (which is what it seems- namely a swimming pool). When feeling like a bout of terror they haul hapless naked swimmers to their deaths. Eventually they emerge from the water to attack the local inhabitants. Despite the fact that they move at the speed of a Trabant which has run out of petrol, they wreak the havoc which only the Wehrmacht can. Anyway, don't bother to suspend your disbelief. Just chuckle. Rollin's best worst movie ......

This movie has not what you would call a 'good story' or a 'plot' or
'good actors' or 'a budget' or a director with 'basic directing skills', but still...
It,s fun! Somehow it manages to exude a wonderful, creepy atmosphere that kept me watching. And, let's be honest, the concept of zombiefied nazi's is very, very, dare i say unglaublichly cool.

Ten years after the residents of a small French village kill the remaining Nazi soldiers in the village and dump the bodies in the lake, the soldiers rise again and terrorize the villagers by attacking and killing them.

A Eurocine production, anyone who knows of this company's horror product of the time knows that this isn't going to be a landmark in horror entertainment, and boy it sure isn't. Where to begin, the "zombies" themselves are about as realistic as a £3 coin, the actors have there face and hands covered in a green paint which according the this film instantly makes them look like zombies (anyone could've done a better job with an over the counter face painting kit), the dubbing is bad as is most of the acting but the real negatives are as usual for Eurocine the pace and story. The story starts off OK, with the villagers taking on the Nazi's and disposing of them but absolutely no reason is given for them returning from there watery graves we just have to go with it, the pace is absolutely atrocious, scenes which could've been over in a couple of seconds take what seems like hours, there are far too many long lingering looks and utterly pointless and plotless shots which add nothing to the story and kill anything that looks like pace. There are a couple of things however which help, cult star Howard Vernon is quite good in the lead and is fairly effective also the sub-plot of the dead Nazi soldier and his daughter is a decent distraction from the utter nonsense going on everywhere else and they have a couple of good scenes.

Surprisingly added to the UK Section 3 nasty list as although there is some violence its hardly graphic or upsetting, but I suppose the authorities at the time were trying to ban almost everything that looked like a horror so...

Avoid this film at all costs. I bought this film as a fan of zombie films and especially Nazi zombie films (I mean what can be more scary than Nazi zombies, right?)BIG MISTAKE, The acting is terrible, special effects are not special at all and the story is a mixture of Nazi zombie film, soft core pornography and pantomime. If Nazi zombie films are your thing try 'Shock waves' or 'Outpost' which in compared to this seem like masterpieces.
