Customers have different views on the fit of the tool. Some find it works well for larger watches, is adjustable to suit various watch sizes, and holds the watch tight enough to enable sufficient twisting force. Others mention that the vice is too small to hold a large-faced watch, the clamp piece is not quite big enough for the 4.5cm diameter watch, or the back case was too tight.

"...Much money saved. The included mini vice holds the watch well making the job nice and easy...." Read more

Customers have different experiences with the watch case opener. Some find it suitable for opening the back of screw-down wrist watches, while others report issues like the opener not opening some brands or being difficult to use. The case opener is only suitable for watches with a screw-on back with side, and the watch holder tool did not open wide enough to grip their watches.

Good tool does the job

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 January 2018I borrowed a watch tool from a friend. His contained round supports for the type of watch where you pop the back off with a knife tool and then use the press to ensure the back goes on With perfect alignment. I'd thought all watches were similar, but no. One of the two watches I had used a rectangular pop off back. I've still not found a tool to work on this. The second watch has a round back with notches around the perimeter to allow it to be screwed off and back on, and that's what this tool is for. I had some concern that the adjustable pins might not exactly fit the particular notches in my Fossil watch but my concerns were unfounded.
It was a quick and easy job to adjust the pins to fit (the rather large) watch. The back unscrewed without fuss and I was able to replace the flat battery with my 99p, including postage, and put it all back together. Much money saved. The included mini vice holds the watch well making the job nice and easy. The adjustable tool is well made and I am happy with my purchase.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 November 2019You can't beat this tool for value for money. Just used it on 4 of my watches and it removed the back easily on 3, little more effort on the 4th. It is a little "flimsy", but for they money you can't complain. I found that it worked easily on open straps, but on bracelet straps I had to open them up to be able to get the tool onto the back (hopefully that makes sense). Luckily I already had a tool to remove links etc.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 February 2019Well,what a great piece of kit these turned out to be.Both my Hubby's and my watch needed new batteries, and since i have been changing my watches battery myself for years, thought why not try and save a few pennies and do both,so after seeing Hubby's watch was more sophisticated than mine,I ordered this as it was cheap and promised fast delivery.Just enough time to take in a few YouTube vids!
Now that's when I thought I may have made a mistake, more than once I heard the knowledgeable sounding person say ' not to bother with those stoopid two pronged bits of rubbish '.Uh oh,well they must know what they're talking about, they have all the kit, they have a fun looking workshop, they are on YouTube for goodness sake!!!!
Well they don't.
This two pronged bit of wonderful kit turned the back of hubby's watch right open and then held it really rather better than my hand ever could. This felt firmly held, but importantly, there where no marks,no damage, nothing left behind.Absolutely brilliant, couldn't have worked better in my humble opinion.
Now a warning.
If you are going to try and impress someone by changing the battery in their watch, check to see if it's one of those posh looking ones with little watch faces within the watch, just check if it needs calibrating after, and if it does, don't rely on the owner to have a clue where the instructions are or know what model it is....It's quicker sometimes to just look it up on the internet.Apparently some watches don't ever come with instructions because no one ever reads them.Hmmmm...Really? ( shakes head while grinning )
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 February 2021I haven't been able to get a battery in my watch during lockdown 3, so thought I'd try to do it myself. This worked perfectly and I didn't want a more comprehensive kit as I only wanted to change the battery (the watch is a screw back). Very easy and all done in 5 minutes, including a (careful) clean round inside. I had previously looked on YouTube to see how to change a watch battery and it was simple.
I am used to cleaning the sensor on my DSLR so this was a breeze. I've just about covered the cost in one go and as all my watches are screw backs I should be able to continue to save money in the future.
If you have a screw-back watch and you just want to change the battery, I can easily recommend this for the money.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 April 2022The watch case holder works well.
However, there is too much 'play' (tech-term 'thread backlash') in the pin-separation mechanism of the watch back tool: You set the pin spacing to suit the watch back, put the tool down to pick-up the case holder, but by then the pins have moved and set themselves to a different spacing.
It's great if you're blessed with two pairs of hands, one pair to hold the cover remover, and a second pair to grasp the case holder.
But, with a lot of patience, it did do the job. And for less than a tenner, it's not bad value.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 November 2020During lockdown the jewellers were all closed, so I went to a famous high street one (which also does shoes) and, instead of £5, as expected, I was quoted almost £30 for changing the battery on my Bulova. I might have gone to £10, but this shocked me.
I have twelve watches, a different one each day, and change the batteries myself now. However, this is the only watch with a screw back. So I risked it and ordered this from Amazon. Fantastic. Not state of the art - the holder was stiff to turn and the pins didn't fit into all the slots. Anyway, I managed to get it to hold the watch and after a lot of pressing did get the back off. Job done, watch now shows the correct time more than twice a day!
By far the most difficult thing was putting the cover back. Advice - wrap some sellotape around your fingers, sticky side out, and fix the back to it. You can then keep trying until the thread grips. Screw it in, and then a final tighten with this tool. Job done.
It didn't cost me anything - this tool actually SAVED me well over £20!
