    Effective tool for the price
Having found the soldering iron/solder sucker method slow especially with through plated holes I thought I would give this tool a try. To remove the leads shown in the picture would take up to 10 mins using traditional methods Including the possibility of using de soldering braid for a final clean up. Using this tool I was able to de solder & remove the component, removing the solder from both sides and leaving a clean holes n 45 seconds! It is up to temperature in about 6 mins. For smaller joints it just needs to be moved around over the terminal for 3 or 4 seconds before releasing the plunger. It might benefit from a nozzle with a smaller diameter hole but this is a minor point give the price. The unil seems well constructed given the cost. The plastic tube holding the plunger is quite a tight fit into the main body. It initially might need need prying away for cleaning but becomes easier with use. I used a small screwdriver at the position shown by the metallic arrow in the photo. Don't try to use the plunger shaft a a leaver, also be prepared for the plunger to spring loose when it's released from the main body. Before first use I sprayed the internals of the sucker with silicon lubricant. This improved the suction and makes removing the solder for cleaning. I tend to give I a short spray after easy clean. The lower 1/3 to 1/2 tends to get hot in use but in reality you are holding it towards to top anyway.I don't know what it's life span will be as I only use it intermittently but it is great value and very useful. It comes complete with a small metal stand

I engage in repairing my own electronic devices, which often involves the process of desoldering components. Typically, I rely on an inexpensive suction pump in conjunction with my soldering iron. However, with this particular tool, I can effortlessly extract a 4-pin switch within seconds, without requiring any additional assistance such as helping hands.

If you occasionally engage in desoldering tasks, this tool will serve you adequately.

However, if you require a tool for daily professional use, it may be worthwhile to consider something more specialized. In my personal experience, this tool has performed exceptionally well.

    Gooday

I bought this to desolder a thumbstick from an Xbox Elite 2 controller. The pins were very small and the nozzle hole is fairly large on this, so I ended up having to add more solder to the pins, no only to make the area bigger but also to actually allow heat to penetrate down into the pre-existing solder. Apparently the pre-existing solder melts at higher temperatures and wont melt with a regular soldering iron easily, but if you add regular leaded solder this helps to transfer more heat from the tip and the solder melts. This did the trick but each pin took about 4 attempts. I did not tin the head because I felt the solder might adhere to the tip instead of being sucked up. Perhaps that was the wrong thing to do and this whole process would have gone much quicker. There was no instruction to do so but on another product description on Amazon it said to. Perhaps it helps rather the hinders the flow. I think without this tool I had no chance of getting that thumbstick off.

The build quality is very solid even though it is mostly plastic.
There is a problem with a LOT of heat being transferred through the handle at the base over time. The suction release button however is at the top which necessitates that your hand also be at the top to press it, so I guess this heat issue isn't such an issue really since your hand is out of the way. The manufacturer should still do a better job of making that inner tube well insulated.
Yes, as the other reviewers say, this is very hard to open. I ended up having to use a screwdriver and wedge it open using that BOTTOM of the shaft of the plunger. This prevented the shaft from bending since there is almost no lever force applied. Once it was open I filed down the plastic ledge that slides in and under the catch on the body. I ended up taking off about a mm. I did this in stages, testing repeatedly to make sure I didn't overdo it an end up with something that didn't just pop out on its own. Much easier to open now.
Yes, there is a fair bit of smoke which lasted for 10 minutes. I don't blame it actually since this thing gets extremely hot and its a wonder how everything else doesn't just melt. Its probably some of the grease that comes from the upper tube where the plunger slides.
The suction is more than adequate. So long as you hold the iron upright so all sides are sealed against the board, then press the button, you will get the full force. In hindsight there is a rubber seal at the bottom of the tube which helps seal in the suction for the plunger. By shaving off the the top ledge I've lessened the pressure at the bottom so I'm not sure if I've inadvertently lessened the suction. It seems pretty airtight to me.
I've had no issue with screws melting from the handle. Mine was on for about 45 min and that didn't happen or show any signs of melting.
Finally, the nozzle. Yes, its quite big but I still managed to desolder very small pins that were close together too. It would have been great if they supplied a second one that simply had a smaller hole. Its an absolute no brainer. What about an extra head to that is just a regular soldering tip??? Now you've got a 2 in 1 product. No need to buy a separate soldering iron. Think people think! And rather than a separate cheap little metal stand have little a fold away latch at the side of the device. As far as smaller hole nozzles are concerned, apparently you cannot find one anywhere but I got that from a reviewer on YouTube and have not looked myself.

Thanks for reading. Have a nice day

Possibly the greatest invention since microwavable french fries. No, really, this is a superb little tool. I just used this to desolder the joysticks from an Xbox controller - 28 pins in total. I'd normally set aside a good hour for that and expect to be faffing about with desolder wick and perhaps some hot air, and constantly sweating over toasting the PCB tracks. No need for all that with this gadget - probably took me two minutes to do the 28 pins once the iron had heated up. I added a little liquid flux and then desoldered away! And the end result was clean and tidy and no hassle fitting the new parts through the clean holes. Obviously, I used a conventional solder iron for that bit. Well impressed and worth every penny.

This worked really well for the first 50 or so joints, but then progressively became poorer. The problem is that it no longer heats the solder enough to make it flow. There is heat, the element is not completely dead, just not enough at the tip.

If I had written this review after the first 10 joins, I would give 5 stars with massive enthusiasm.

But disappointingly this tool is not durable. I don't think 50 joints is a lot - this works out at 20p a joint which is really quite overpriced.

As the tip/nozzle is replaceable, maybe it just needs a new one. I've seen the tips priced at about 60p elsewhere, but not available on amazon. If the tip needs replacing this often it would be bearable, though it should have come with some spares.

It may be possible the type of solder makes a difference? This is unlikely though since my regular 17w soldering iron and separate pump have no problem with the same solder.

As someone who’s been an off and on soldering user, the hardest and trickiest part has always been using a desoldering pump and iron at the same time or trying to use desoldering wick as well. I’ve recently started to repair game consoles and accessories more and this has been a fantastic piece of kit. Heats up somewhat quickly, it’s a good tip size and it quickly sucks and melts what your removing. However the only down sides to this gadget is the vacuum part can be hard to remove but will loosen over time. It doesn’t come with a very good stand so just make sure you have a spare stand or place it on something like a heat proof surface and lastly quality wise despite having a shield to protect you from the heat of it, it will be hot to touch but like hot water touch (if that makes sense?) so overall you get what you pay for it’s good for amateurs like myself who can’t justify paying out for the more expensive versions of these till i can justify it or the price goes down.
