This is a great story, full of twists and turns that make you went to keep turning the pages. Lovely well described sex and great characterization. Highly recommend.

Anyone who reads my reviews will know that I'm a massive fan of, and a beta for, BE and that I beg and plead for something new from her. This is another Keeper of a tale, which is kind of difficult to review without Spoiling it, but I'll try.

Kell's an undercover cop, one who went in with his eyes open, and knowing what might come up and what he might have to do - some of the stuff, which BE introduces barely a page or so in, is hard to stomach, but there's a greater purpose that Kell believes in, though he's wondering how much more of this he can take and if he'll ever be able to lead a normal life one day, with someone to share it with. Or even if he'll come out of it alive - yeah, it's that dangerous.

Gethin is a PI whose past includes some stuff that skirted the line between legal and illegal, but he's a good guy, though a bit fed up with how mundane the PI life is. He and Kell end up in a chance meeting, but then events conspire to bring them both further into each other's lives than they could ever have dreamed of, with Kell still having to maintain cover - and secrets. Gethin has his own secrets and a huge responsibility that he cannot share, so theirs is a 'relationship' that consists of nothing but convenient hook-ups, until it becomes more for both of them.

But, even as some secrets get revealed, others can't be revealed and then the professional side of their lives mesh in ways they couldn't have anticipated and the stakes are seriously upped, and they both end up in danger and working together, and trying to stay ahead of danger on their wits alone - at least, at first, before things seriously escalate and they need to trust each other like never before to stay alive...

When Kell went undercover it wasn't supposed to be for long.

2 years later, a boss who uses him for rough, abusive sex and no way of getting out till the job ends, he doesn't know where to turn.

Gethin is a private investigator.

He is also a waiter on his off days when his friend Angel is having a staff crisis.

When the two men meet, it's at a party set in Kell's real world, when they meet again on the dark side of his life, will Gethin be able to keep his secret?

Getting involved in the seedy world that Kell is stuck in isn't what either men want but developing a relationship in that world is almost impossible.

The operation that Kell is investigating is more involved than he first imagined and now that Gethin is there to find a runaway, things turn nasty.

Will they both escape with their lives or will love be their undoing?

This book had me hooked from the first page to the last word.

There were a few heart stopping moments and a lots of ooohs, aaahs and gasps along the way.

A brilliant piece of fiction yet again from this author.

5 out of 5 stars.

Drawn in ... like drawn in the book. Complete. With skin and hair. After a night shift with my Kindle I'm done. I needed to know.

Are you afraid of the darkness? Be calm. Because there isn't THIS particular darkness. Those who know Barbara Elsborg already, know what I mean. The other, who don't know this great author, should get to know her. Open minded and expectantly.

The story is consistently exciting. The feelings and moods of the main characters are very well transported. The atmosphere is adequately damped, but not depressed. There have been handled several interesting points of tension.

I learned only here on GR, that some readers want a warning against the so-called triggers. I don't want to elaborate on them, since these triggers have been mentioned here in previous reviews.
I just want to say that these things happen in real life. You can read about it in the daily newspaper (without trigger warning). However, this subject is treated there with much less finesse. I noticed in another book of the author, that she treated these sensitive matters with careful consideration and with a lot of feeling. There are issues that encouraging me personally to think about it. How would I behave in this situation? What would I do if I were at this point? As directly affected or a partner. I think everyone has already dealt with it. I have worked for many years on an ICU. I know the pain and sorrow. I am always interested in the opinions of others. So I found the discussions of the agonists very interesting. And I must say, absolutely realistic.
Whenever a book creates something like that, has the author reached his or her goal.

Undercover police officer Kell is become trapped in an abusive relationship with his violent thug of a boss ...

When you pick up a book by Barbara Elsborg, you can be sure you will be reading quality. Ms Elsborg consistently crafts expertly written stories peopled by well rounded, fully explored characters and Drawn In is no exception.

Both main characters deal with issues that emotionally hold them prisoner, unable to move on despite wanting to break out of the situations in which they find themselves. But break out they do, as without wanting to they are drawn to each other as men, as well as being drawn in to each others worlds which merge and overlap in this action packed story. This is classic Elsborg so, yes, there are guns, chases, villains and victims, and darkness - but there is also love and compassion and tenderness. At one point this book made me cry, and that's not something I do either as a reader or in "real life" so all kudos to the strength of writing. Oh, there's also a fair bit of sex but it's not there for the sake of it, unlike so many books in the mm genre. The sex moves the story forward, as it should, and it adds to the tale of these two fractured men rather than overshadowing. An excellent read, and highly recommended.
