The Grand Tour in general, has been good and some of it not so good. Although there are several familiar elements, this isn't Top Gear - anyone expecting it to be exactly the same as before, will be disappointed and if you weren't particularly fond of their show on the BBC, you're probably not going to like them now either!

Unlike Top Gear, which was made for the UK and then sold world-wide; the Grand Tour is made by Amazon with a global audience in mind. In order to maximise the appeal, each episode is presented from a pop-up studio-tent in a different country and features a couple of pre-recorded films, some studio time, the celebrity piece and sometimes ‘the American’ test driver does a timed lap.

The opening episode is brilliant and begins with a film depicting the journey from London and the meeting up of the three presenters in California – there’s cars, bikes, jets, live music from the Hothouse Flowers and a burning caravan suspended from a crane! This is their opening gambit as they set out their stall for what they aim to deliver – a much bigger and bolder version of their previous in-CAR-nation!

Some episodes and their features work better than others; when it’s good, it’s cinematic, shot against the backdrops of some truly magnificent locations. There's fantastic cars, power-slides and slow-mo shots with the whole lot presented in eye-wateringly beautiful 4K UHD. The amount of detail on screen really is breath-taking and amazing – a brilliant showcase for the format.

At times you may begin to question the format of the new show: travelling to different locations each week when very little actually takes place in the studio; the 20 second intro featuring shots of the host city / country don't really justify being on location.

Was what i expected, which in this case is exactly what i wanted. I watch top gear because its relaxing, its the best show to watch over and over, this show seems like it will capture the same role. As far as i'm concerned this is season 23 and cant wait for the rest. Just hope the three clowns don't retire anytime soon.

If the first episode is anything to go by, the series is going to be a belter. It's got all the character and fun of the old Top Gear with more freedom and budget.

The cars shine, the visuals are better than ever and the 3 hosts are what we've all known from the BBC and love.

The concept is familiar but sufficiently different to make it stand aside from Top Gear that the BBC is still producing. It seems that the grand challenges that we're used to seeing one of each series on Top Gear will now be possible week-in, week-out with the budget that Amazon are giving them. I, for one, am excited to see the rest of the series and what they do.

The new track is great with bags of character and keeps a tradition alive that I think all fans of Top Gear wanted to see live on. I think I preferred my racing driver silent tho!

You can see them throwing money at silly little stunts for the sake of it, but it's that type of whimsy that make Clarkson, Hammond and May what they are. Just roaring good fun to watch because you can see that they're loving it too. It's like having a laugh with your mates.

Overall it's pretty much what I expected, but that's why it's so good.

Thank you Amazon for entrusting the best people on the planet to host what I believe will be the greatest car show... (Clarkson's voice) In The World.
The guys know how to make a car show to keep your eyes peeled and stuck to the screen.
As for TopGear, R.I.P., racers should race, actors should act and TV presenters should read the News.
These three are a different bunch and they do a great job.

Well its been a long time waiting and is it going to be worth it? Has the chemistry have gone, will the new format lose the naturalness?
The opening minutes will tell you everything you need to know. Its back, its bigger, its better but they are the same three blokes fecking about.

Cinematography is amazing, the jokes natural, the cars were astonishing and the three guys, like a fine wine, have just got better. You feel like there is some energy which is just being held on launch control - the supercar test they always wanted to do was just the beginning - I can't wait for the rest! To the guys and the team, and to Amazon. Great job.

Episode 9 - Berks to the Future - Stuttgart, Germany
So after the different approach with the end of year epic journey, the last 5 episodes of the Season are studio based and the first one of these is in Stuttgart. So the opening sequence is exactly as before and we open to German audience. A bit of chatter about the home of Mercedes and Porsche and a little German politics and we are off to the first film - James is on the track with a Honda NSX and inevitably it goes to the American (whose microphone is still switched on - surely its not going to be long before this gets changed). The track time is in the wet, which leads Jeremy and Richard to conclude that they have learnt absolutely nothing about the car as it was tested slowly by James and then lapped in the wet.
At which point some blah blah blah in Conversation street and then Jeremy shows how to make an off-road sports car by hacking up a couple of Landrover Discoverys, an MG and a Mercedes SL, which has its funny and amusing moments - not a bad film.
