I bought this cable to maximise the display resolution between a PC with a DVI-D Dual link connection and a 4k monitor. The cable's product description states 'The AmazonBasics HDMI to DVI adapter cable meets the latest HDMI standard, which means it considerably expands bandwidth up to 18 Gbps, offers 4K@50/60 (2160p) video resolution (four times more clarity than 1080p/60)'.

However the best resolution I can obtain is 1080p@60Hz.

After spending quite a bit of time investigating why I couldn't get better I established that the maximum resolution it was possible to get out of a DVI-D connection at 60Hz is 2560×1600. On top of that it seems that if a DVI-D connector is converted to HDMI at the other end then resolution is typically limited to 1080p@60Hz. The only way round this is to use an Active adapter, of which there are very few around.

The upshot is that Amazon's item description is incorrect, misleading and the stated performance is impossible to achieve with this product, even if the kit on either end of the cable is capable of it.

However, if you just want a good 1080p@60 DVI to HDMI cable this is a decent enough product.

Bought this to hook a laptop to a monitor that supports 2560 x 1440 via straight HDMI cable but it only shows 1920 x 1080 as max resolution with this cable (HDMI on laptop / DVI on monitor).
This is the same use as in the product description (see the laptop image) and sad that it says 4k in description but only FullHD looks to be supported.

I share this monitor with another desktop and it has only 1 HDMI port so wanted to use DVI port but this cable does not meet my requirement. I am going to use it for another purpose or maybe return it as it doesn't meet the spec advertised...

Does the job and carries audio

I have a monitor and a TV in my room and bought this to connect the TV to my computer so I can use it as an additional monitor if/when I need to.

Works perfectly for this purpose and a feature I wasn't bothered about but has since come in handy - it DOES carry sound/audio so I can play sound through the TV if I need too instead of the crappy monitor built-in speakers.

This cables promise conversion of DVI to HDMI. For my application (routing DVI output to HDMI inputs on monitors), these proved only just functional and certainly sub standard. Instead of a full 1080 image, the best I could get was a reduced size (circa 90%) and resolution picture. I'm not sure if this was reducing the resolution, but reverting to standard DVI resulted in a far clearer, full resolution image.

I bought this on the basis of reviews that implied full resution pictures, but I have to question those judgements now. I can only assume they had less than exacting requirements (I was expecting transparent conversion of full 1080p resolution, not an approximation).

Apart from that, these cables are cheap and cheerful. Hardly top quality, but if they match your needs, then they are reasonable value for money.

Use this every day to connect direct from laptop to various monitors as I hot-desk around various offices. This is ideal for this use as the cable is flexible (as opposed to some that are stiff) with moulded plugs so it puts up with road warrior abuse of plugs being pulled out by the cable etc.

I've always used VGA and I thought it was about time I'd upgrade. With the Amazon Basics cable, I was pleasantly surprised with the build quality and durability. It's very rugged and looks as if it could last a lifetime (probably over exaggerating, but certainly promising).

I wanted to use the audio feature of my monitor and this cable could do that. I simply plugged it into my DVI port from the PC and then to the HDMI port on my monitor. I had no issues connecting it and everything worked flawlessly.

The cable was packaged well and even came with two covers for the connectors.

This cable will win no design awards but I would vouch for its durability, reliability and functionality.

An excellent product from Amazon Basics at a great price. With HDMI audio features this is a really neat upgrade.

My graphics card only supports 1 hdmi output, so i use this cable to connect a DVI output to the HDMI input of my second monitor.
Does the job well, i don't see any drawbacks over the direct HDMI to HDMI connection.
