The uDAC3 derives its operating power from the USB port on your laptop or computer. This then engages a special circuit that ensures ample voltage is always available for explosive sound reproduction. The core of the uDAC3 is comprised of a 24bit/96kHz DAC which executes the latest asynchronous USB communication.

The double jitter-reduction mechanism ensures that you will only ever hear a harmonically accurate production. The flexible uDAC3 comes complete with stereo analogue RCS jacks, digital S/PDIF coaxial, and a high-performance output that will accommodate most headphones. It is suitable for driving earphones or headphones with impedances ranging from 16-300 Ohms and has 80mW x 2 (16 Ohms) power available.

Fantastic sound quality, but build quality not up to the same standard

For sound quality it's brilliant, I plugged my Sennheiser Momentum's in and now I have a new appreciation for how good they are. This little box of wonders is fantastic, it's small and easily tucks away. But...... i've had it for just over 4 weeks now and i plugged the usb micro cable into the back of it and the port popped through into the box and is now rattling around inside making it unusable and broken. The build quality needs to be stepped up and I'll be asking for a refund and maybe trying it again because the sound that it made was fantastic

Really pleased with this DAC. I have had another NuForce amp for a couple of years to output music from my TV through large speakers and it has been brilliant. So when I saw these on a Lightning Deal I went for one (and discovered they had previously been even cheaper, albeit very briefly).
I have to say I am very impressed with the clarity and depth of sound. Music through my P7 B&W headphones from a MacBook Pro, switching between the normal 3.5mm socket and the DAC is immediately noticeable, even to my rubbish hearing.
The unit is tiny but solid and well made. I haven't yet tried the Co-ax or analogue RCA's through my hifi but I have no doubt they will be equally impressive and immersive.
Sadly, as advertised, it does not pick up a signal from my Android device (unlike other DAC's which can!) but for getting SACD quality sound from a PC/Mac I can highly recommend it.

I bought this on a whim when the price fell sharply for some reason.
I was pleasantly surprised at the small size of the device and the music quality that it produced.
However I only used it a handful of times and recently the USB input to the device that connects it to a laptop/PC broke off.
It was definitely not through misuse and now the input port is rattling inside the device and it is rendered useless.
Worst is that it has only passed the returns window by to weeks.
So in the long run it has been costly device that was used a few times and it now useless.
I saw another review on here which showed that this is a common problem.
USB input is the only weak part of the overall design but it is a fatal flaw.
Avoid buying unless you cover yourself with an extended warranty!!

Very high quality dac/amp, excellent sound quality, great build quality, I also own a very expensive headphone amp I've had for years and it's on the same level as that, great value, will improve the sound hugely if you have a crappy sound card, no brainer just pick it up, i'm using it every day, very sweet.

A Cracking uDAC Digital Audio Converter-Fabulous Sound and Volume Enhancement

This Optoma NuForce uDAC-3 is the business if you want to enhance your listening experience with headphones
for a computer with digital music, games, or by linking it up with your speaker to a hi fi system.

Firstly though, the instructions with the product are sparse. Not that its difficult to work out, by utilising your settings,
(My computer is a Mac,) and your a ready to go. I have a wide taste in music from rock to classical, and there is no doubt
that there is a greater clarity with the sound and a significant boost to the volume.

It is the same process if you wish to build up your sound experience with games. For me this was a standout feature. Using headphones
the result was a definite level above the normal experience.

The other option is to link it, to your speakers, on your hi-fi system. Again, this was achieved successfully without fuss.

There is no doubt it is a cracking little, (unobtrusive,) unit which generates a great sound.

If you are considering buying a uDAC Digital Audio Converter then this could be for you. Recommended.

I already own a FiiO E10K Headphone Amplifier and DAC and have always been really happy with the sound quality it delivers, so I wasn't sure what to expect from the slightly more expensive NuForce uDAC-3. More cynical music lovers might wonder how much difference there can be between such digital devices, but I tried to test the uDAC-3 with a completely open mind using my much loved Creative Aurvana Live! Headphones and I'm really glad I did - it's fantastic! After using it for just a few days, I decided I actually preferred it to my FiiO and now I use it all the time at home. The FiiO (which is still a really good DAC) now gets used at work instead!

The device itself is very simple and clean. The black outer casing is actually metal rather than plastic and feels solid to the touch. It's still compact enough to easily slip in your pocket if you want to use it on the move or carry it with your laptop. There's a solid rotary volume knob on the front, next to a subtle power LED and the 3.5mm headphone output socket. On the back you get a micro USB socket for connecting to the computer, a couple of RCA line output sockets and a digital coaxial output socket should you need them. Installation is an absolute doddle on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 - just plug in and go; Windows has all the necessary drivers built-in. I see some other reviewers were not happy with the supplied instructions, but really there's not much to know - just plug it in to your PC and connect some headphones!

The first thing I noticed was how rich and warm the sound that this uDAC produces is compared to my FiiO. The uDAC is more of a purist device, with no switches or configuration at all, but to my ears it produces a slightly richer deeper bass tone compared to the FiiO even with its optional "Bass Boost" feature turned on! There's absolutely no background hiss or noise detectable when no music is playing. Everything just sounds so clean and precise, but still very warm and smooth with no harsh treble. Obviously these things are very subjective, but to my ears the uDAC-3 produces exactly the kind of sound I like to listen to, and it pairs perfectly with my favourite headphones.

Maximum volume output is terrifyingly loud, especially considering this tiny device is only powered by a standard USB socket! With my PC's volume mixer set at 100%, I can only turn up the volume knob on the device to about 1/3 of its maximum before it's painfully loud! Even bassheads will get more than enough volume out of this tiny audio bomb! The headphone socket itself is very solid and there's no wiggle or movement once headphones are connected, so I can believe it will last for years with no loose connections. It's the same story for the micro USB socket on the back. All the analogue audio output sockets appear to be gold-plated for maximum signal quality, the sign of a pro-grade device.

On the face of it, this is really just an expensive high-end external USB sound card with a really decent headphone amp built in. Whether this is worth the money or not depends on your expectations. If you don't use decent headphones or high quality audio files (i.e. high bitrate MP3s/AACs or lossless formats), you may not notice much if any difference compared to the headphone socket built-in to your PC or laptop. If however you're a real music fan or pro and want the very best sound quality out of your computer, then this is a fantastic option. I would say this is plenty good enough for powering monitor headphones in a home studio, and will keep audiophiles very happy when listening to their favourite tracks at home on expensive cans.

Other than the high price, which I feel is fairly justified, there are no downsides to this great little device, so it gets the full 5 stars from me!
