How to Calibrate the pH Meter

1. Before calibration, prepare a beaker containing a pH 4.00 solution, a beaker with pH 6.86 solution, and a beaker pH 9.18 solution. Make sure that each solution is 250ml and at a stable temperature of 25.

2. Prepare 3 separate beakers with distilled water.

3. Press the ON/OFF button to turn on the meter.

4. Remove the cap and immerse the electrode into the PH6.86 buffer solution. Stir gently and wait for the value to stabilize.

5. Press and hold the CAL button for 3 seconds. Hold the electrode into the solution until the LCD screen displays a value of pH 6.86.

6. Rinse the electrode with distilled water and blot dry. Repeat steps 4, 5, and 6 for the pH 4.00 and pH 9.18 solutions.

The Dr.meter pH meter uses a 3-point calibration method, calibrating the electrode to solutions of pH 4.00, pH 6.86, and pH 9.18.

1.Remove the protective cap from the handheld pH meter. Put the composite electrode into distilled water, and slowly stir it for 5-10 seconds, then take out the pH meter and spin-dry it.

2.Press the ON/OFF button to turn on the unit. Dip the electrode in the target solution, making sure the whole electrode is submerged.

3. Stir the solution gently and wait for the value to stabilize. The LCD screen will display both the temperature and pH.

    I use the pH meter for home brewed beer. Most measurements are at or around room temperature. This pH meter takes at least a minute to give a reasonably stable reading and even then the second decimal fluctuates continually. My other non-ATC pH meter gives readings to only 1 decimal place. However, it gives a stable reading within 10 seconds, which agrees well with the Dr Meter pH meter. One decimal pace is adequate for my purposes. The Dr Meter pH meter has a rather short probe to insert into the substance being measured, whereas my other pH meter has a much longer probe. So, with the Dr Meter, you have to be careful how deep the liquid is to avoid any damage to the electrics. The recommended calibration method for the Dr Meter pH meter is complicated with 3 buffer solutions to use, although I have found by experience that you can just use the buffer solution nearest in pH to the sample being measured. I haven't found any advantage of the ATC capabilities of the Dr Meter pH meter in my home brewing measurements. In summary, this is a quality item but I tend to prefer to use my other meter for convenience and simplicity.

    Great PH pen, feels and works like a quality pen should. One thing I would like is a LCD backlit screen as it’s somewhat difficult to see at times but other than that I would recommend this meter. Prior to getting this one I bought a cheaper model and sure enough, couldn’t even get it to work. It’s worth investing a little bit more when it comes to the quality of products like these.
