Barissta Tip.............Controlable /no mess, ok for domestic experience for low cost
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 August 2018Verified Purchase
Overall so far grinder does what it says.
Trained Barrista Tip. (if you are serious about your coffee experience)
Tip:1. Ensure Burr removeable grinder is fitted and locked in securely.
2. Invest in a good small pastry brush to clean out coffee grinds box and to clean burr grinders and their
compartment. Do not wash the grinders or compartments under any circumstances.
3. Do not store extra beans in your fridge under any circumstances because when beans taken directly from fridge
and into grinder they are cold and when taken from fridge the change in temperature allows some moisture to form on beans and therefore choke and glog up grinders and spoil your over all coffee tasting experience. Keep spare opened beans in a small clean air tight container and store away from light in a cool dark cupboard.
Enjoy

Read the reviews, see my photo of the same beans ground by this machine on its finest grind setting, compared to the identical beans ground by the coffee shop that I bought the beans from (Monmouth). Note the unevenness of the grind, and the contrast with the crema (the film on the top of an espresso) produced by each grind. Simply put, this machine is incapable of grinding for espresso machines. I sent it back as unsuitable for purpose.

Useless for espresso machines, see photo for comparison

My parents have a coffee shop so I grew up drinking espressos. It’s very important to me to have good coffee and good machines to make me feel back home. This little guy does not disappoint. Obviously you can not compare the standard with a professional industrial size grinder but for its size the results are really good. Some users say the coarse it’s not fine enough. I could not disagree more. My grandad and dad always said to me that the course should be fine and you should see the grounded coffee clear of beans but aggregating in little “clusters”. That’s what I get, also the cream on the espresso is good, sticks to the cup and even after cooling down a bit it remains. I am really happy and in my opinion this mill does not need modification. It was delivered really quickly as well arriving 1 day before the expected date!

This is a pretty good coffee grinder for the relatively low cost. I’ve used it around four times a week for the past few months. The grind isn’t as consistent as I’d like - there is always some powder that comes through even on a course setting. However I’ve been electrocuted twice AFTER switching it off and unplugging it - brushing the pins on the socket has given me a a bang followed by a very tingly arm - first time thought it was a coincidence but happened again yesterday. I guess there are capacitors or something in the mechanism that were still holding charge. Might be a one off defect but beware!

While technically a burr grinder, its poorly thought out design detracts from the typical strength of burrs versus blades: consistency. On every setting, a large proportion of the grounds are 'fines,' extremely fine particles which clog the paper filter of your pour-over/drip, muddy your cup of french press, or choke your espresso machine. In addition to the poor grind quality, the ground collection bin gets very staticy and is certain to spill grounds on every use. For £30-40, you'll be better served by a decent hand grinder. If you must have an electric grinder and care about the quality of your coffee, look elsewhere.

The only downside is the plastic round holder in the middle of the bean compartment always comes loose.
It is meant to stay in place but more often than not just moves out of the way by the motion of the beans. This makes the machine sound funny as the beans are not grinding properly. So what i do is manaully start and stop the machine after 3 or 4 seconds, do that say 4 times.
Its a bit of a pain then as you have to tip the machine upside down to empty the beans, re-insert the plastic holder then re-fill with beans again.

I've had this for a few months and it's great.
My initial thoughts after my first grind weren't too great. When i looked at the end result, it looked like the size of the grind was all over the place - on investigation the ground coffee had just clumped together. It's also a little on the noisy side. If your other half is still in bed, you'll probably not be too popular using the machine before they get up.
When you get over that it's a good little machine. The auto-stop feature is great - You can get it started and go off and do something else while it's grinding (likely to avoid the noise).
- It does come with a big ugly sticker on the front of the tray which comes off pretty easily.
- I have had one jam so far which was pretty easy to resolve, but it did involve having to pour all the beans out and removing & replacing the burrs.
- The design is a little annoying. The tiny cable restricts where you can put it and the grind control is on the left hand side. Unfortunately for me the unit is between the wall and a microwave which makes adjusting the grind awkward.

Decent grinder. Much better than the cheaper blade grinders or the one built into our Cuisinart coffee maker. Grind is adjustable from very course for cafetiere, to fine for espresso machines. The amount of coffee ground is determined by a dial. I've found this quite inaccurate as the grinder will produce far more than what the setting suggests. I now pre-measure the beans before grinding rather than rely on its measurement. The design of the grounds container could be better as well. The ground beans are deposited into the container through a small square hole at the back of the container not through the top. After grinding there is always some blow back and spillage from this hole. This means constant clean up of the counter and the slot where the container fits after you remove the grounds container from the grinder. A minor niggle but still annoying.
