    Energy charger series

The microcontroller-monitored charger of Energy series does not require any control elements and, thanks to the fully automatic control, its handling is clear and easy. You can charge all five major battery sizes, also mixed. The battery level prior to charging is irrelevant. The charger is suitable for all rechargeable batteries (NiMH/NiCd).

High-tech charger with high charging current and perfect charging control

Highlights of the ANSMANN Energy 8 Plus

    1. Charging the batteries: Charging option for 1-6 Micro AAA / Mignon AA, 1-4 Baby C / Mono D, 1-2 9V Block NiCd/NiMH rechargeable batteries.

    2. Maintaining and refreshing the batteries: The device automatically detects ailing rechargeable batteries, and initiates a refresh program which gently "revives" the batteries.

    3. Automatic shut-off: State of the art microprocessor-controlled charging technology with multiple overcharge protection guarantees optimally charged batteries and a gentle charging process.

    4. Quick charge: The Energy 8 Plus automatically determines the optimal charging current for the inserted batteries and loads them with up to 1000 mA in a rapid charging process.

    5. Individual monitoring: With the Energy 8 Plus each round cell (of any size) can be placed in any charging slot. Each battery is individually monitored during charging, and individually charged to its maximum capacity.

    Intelligent charge control

After inserting the batteries, the charger starts an automatic diagnosis and a quick capacity test for about five seconds. Depending on the condition of the battery, the device selects a gentle pre-charge and/or refresh program, or initiates the actual charging process. The refresh mode restores performance of rechargeable batteries damaged by storage or memory effect, and prolongs their life cycle considerably.

Once a battery is fully charged, the charging process is automatically stopped and switched to trickle charging (buffer charging with current impulses). This feature ensures optimum performance and counteracts the self-discharge of the battery. The battery can thus remain in the device until it is used. A clearly arranged LED display shows the current program mode for each charging slot separately. Should a non-rechargeable or defective battery be inserted accidentally, this will be indicated by a flashing red LED.

The Energy 8 Plus is designed for worldwide use.

A very high-quality battery charger for use with NiMH batteries in sizes "AAA", "AA", "C", "D" and "9-volt". This charger can charge or recharge any combination, including odd numbers, of 1-8 "AAA" or "AA", 1-4 "C" or "D", and 1-2 "9-volt". It's made of quality materials and feels very sturdy, like it's going to last for a long time.

The charger has several different cycles that it automatically runs through for each battery individually, and the colour-coded LEDs tell you what is happening to each individual battery. The colour key is printed on the top of the charger face for easy reference. There's "refreshing", "pre-charging", "charging", "ready" and "error". (Pre-charging is for batteries that are completely dead.)

It comes with a Euro plug which can be used in a socket adaptor, or a 12-volt car charger. There is a +16 version of this same product that can handle more batteries at once, and has 2 USB ports as well. I use a lot of rechargable batteries and this is the best charger I have used. The +8 charger is smaller and easier to transport or store in a locker. The +16 charger is more versatile as it has more slots, but the build and function quality of them both is the same.

I have had this charger for several years now and like others I have some issues with it deciding that my batteries are dead and need replacing. According to one source, this is because the polarity has been reversed, possibly due to inserting the batteries the wrong way round. To fix this you need to put the batteries into a non-intelligent charger to switch the polarity back round the right way.
Overall I am fairly happy with this charger, its not perfect, but I have saved a stack load of money over the years and helped the environment too. Much better than my older cheap non-intelligent charger that killed my batteries way quicker than this one.

The only way to look after your batteries.

Bought this newer version following the death of my long-serving previous version. Always cares for my AA/AAA/9v batteries. It's not particularly rapid, but then I charge them overnight using this charger. It is a bit bulkier than one of the on-socket chargers, but has prolonged the lifetime of my batteries no end.

I bought this product because I thought that Ansmann was a good brand, if the price was anything to go by. I use lots of rechargeable batteries for different household and other electronic equipment as most of us do and I have stopped using non-rechargeable batteries wherever possible. This charger works well but doesn't charge some batteries for no apparent reason and this is not related to the brand or type of battery, it seems completely random. The same battery charges normally on another charger worth 1/4 or less of the price. It has indicator lights that change colour but these now just seem like a cheap gimmick to me to make us fork out. Two stars, because it performs less well than a cheaper device and it is heavily over-priced. I would recommend not to buy it

Got this because I had tried many other chargers that have eventually given up the ghost.
Quality is reasonable and seems to work well, easy to use. My reservation is that it has shown quite a few of my batteries defective or at the end of their useful life. If charged in my other charger, after use seems to be happy to charge the defective battery without issue. So don't know if some batteries are getting worse for wear or charger not quite as clever as portrayed.
Seems very expensive for what it is.

Delivery good, no problems with supplier.

However this Ansmann charger was a royal pain in the backside. So much so that I sent it back to Ansmann UK with a letter of complaint about how fussy it was. They say they tested it and that it met their standards so I have to assume you need to be using their batteries too. They refused to comment on the fact that my batteries could be charged in lower spec chargers quite happily and worked fine thereafter. Go figure.
I should mention the symptoms of what I describe as "fussy". The charger is termed intelligent, ie it checks the condition of the battery prior to charging it. It then adopts one of it's charging regimes dependant on what it determines. With my batteries it determined they were dead and wouldn't attempt to charge them. There is no over ride to tell it to try anyway (and let the user decide). Worth noting - if I precharged the batteries in a very simple charger then this Ansmann would go ahead and charge them fully. Intelligent, no. Not even clever.

I replaced it with ... a "Tronic KH980" charger. Although this is sold by Lidl the layout and method of battery clamping in particular are very similar to the Ansmann product. Too similar in fact and under the skin this is an Ansmann charger too....Ansmann UK confirmed this to me. It is an earlier model of the "Ansmann Energy 8 Plus" with fewer "intelligent" features, (probably an "Energy 8"). The TRONIC KH980 JUST WORKS, no messing about, no special treatment. I was able to back to back test the two chargers, the Tronic would charger the batteries that the Ansmann wouldn't. A battery charged on the Tronic operated as well as one on the Ansmann.

Bottom line, IMHO, the Ansmann charger at £50 doesn't work , even after Ansmann UK checked it out. It is soundly beaten by a £12 charger from Lidl.

5.0 out of 5 stars Das kleine kompakte Ladegerät für AAA-, AA-, C-, D-Akkus und 9 Volt Blocks.
Reviewed in Germany on 9 July 2017
