owned & used for several weeks.
Ideal if you have large collection of DVDs that you want to watch, without spending ages to find from the back of the cupboard.
I suggest that you connect to your PC to create the folders, as its easier to name them. Note you need a separate folder for each DVD.
Its failing is speed in reaction to commands, but if you are patient it will work.
How to use - is you feed a DVD into the slot, move the cursor to DVD icon, ask it to copy, then move cursor to HDD icon, search for your disc specific folder, then tell it to paste.
Its seems to work with any & all DVDs, no matter what region etc.
End result is you end up with a HDD with straight copies of your DVDs. You can connect external HDD to expand. If you wish then you can use your PC to edit them.

Please do not buy this product. I have tried two different units now and both malfunction. The first unit worked for about a week then the DVD-player broke down and refused to eject my inserted DVD, talk about a double loss. I received a replacement unit after about 10 days and on the new unit the DVD-player refused to play my DVDs for more than two minutes. The concept is brilliant and all, but if the components does not work it is useless. These two machines have cost me lots of time and money so do not buy it and save yourselves both time and money.

Given up trying to get this working on my home network. Very dissapointed, and I might be missing something , however I have been running a wireless network with several PCs, laptops, a netbook and wirless printer for over a year now. No problems getting any of my existing kit up and running, however I cannot get this device to do anything on my network (wireless or LAN).

Dissapointed, because I really wanted a simple and low cost solution for streaming video and music, but so far no success with this device. I will keep plugging away with it, but for now, in the process of converting 500 or so DVDs to DivX movies, so I can at least run the movies directly from HDD.

This is another point, the unit ships without a hard disk. Again, not a huge issue, but it would have been good to know before ordering.
I promptly ordered up a 500Gb SATA II HDD from amazon, and hooked it up a few days later.

Instructions are not great, and this might be why I am struggling to get the network stuff working, so I would suggest if you are not pretty savvy at setting this type of equipment up, then it probably isn't the ideal solution.

On the positive side, I like the design, small, stylish. Good range of connections, including HDMI. Nice remote control, and controls are fairly intuitive. User interface is very straightforward (if only I could access the network stuff, I could explore this side of things as well). Image quality of DVDs and DivX are great (provided your DivX files are good enough to start with)

So for me, it's OK. If I could crack the network stuff, I would score this much higher. My main reason for buying this was ideally as a wireless media centre, and to date I don't have this, but rather a DivX player, with MP3 capability.

I have been shopping around for some time for a media player, I opted to buy the itab as it has a host of additional features including a DVD slot which you can use to watch DVDs/Divx and play CD's as well as being able to rip these to the hard disk. I took me around 40 minutes to copy an 8GB dual layer DVD onto the hard disk, the sound and image quality from the hard drive was exactly the same as that of the original media. When using the HDMI connection the image seemed sharper. As a HD media centrer it is one of the best I have seen, quick remote response from different angles as well as a user-frendly menu. I have downloaded the lasest firmware V1.53 and it has been easy. Wireless and LAN are all good, a quality product with a nice design.

I bought this as I wanted a one stop storage facility for films and music etc. Got fed up of the kids scratching the discs. Looked at lots, eventually chose this one after reading the instruction manual online and found out it plays video_ts files, which is what I wanted. I have fitted a 1TB hard drive to this, and have loads of my films and mp3/WAV files on it now. Copying files to it is really easy, just copy/paste in windows explorer etc. The instructions even tell you how to fit and install the hard drive, useful as I am no real pc whizz.
Only issue has been that no matter what I try, I can't get it connected to my pc over the ethernet connection, hard wired or wireless. No great shakes though, when I rip a new DVD to my pc, I just bring this unit to it, plug it in usb and copy it over. It acts as a useful back up too, in case the pc falls over. When ripping cd's to mp3, choose a high quality setting if you are to use this unit as playback, lower quality setting will not work well.
Playback is fine on my Samsung 37" lcd tv, better on 1080p setting than 1080i, get jittery movement on the i setting, great picture on p setting. Picture connected with HD cable, sound with optical connection into the back of my Samsung cinema system. Picture quality is same or better than my upscaling dvd player.
Fan is noisy even on low speed setting, but no worse than a disc spinning in a dvd player. I have played numerous films with the fan turned off completely with no problems, unit does not seem to get hot at all. It may get hotter if you play a dvd in the built in drive, but I have never done this, only played them from the hard drive.
Never ripped a disc direct in the unit, always used a pc program for this, so can't rate for this. Display on-screen is good, easy to navigate menu etc. So, quite expensive compared to other units available, but worth it as it actually works well as a hd player.
